10 min read

It's a quality draft of nine being paraded from the Chester Barn for Lustre Lodge, all sons and daughters of high-class proven stallions. There are yearlings by a couple of Champion Sires and all but one of the horses represented have already sired Group 1 winners, making their horses a great starting point for any keen buyer.

Lot 69 - Toronado (Ire) x Veravarti (NZ) (O'Reilly {NZ}) (bay filly)

View pedigree

By one of Australia's most popular stallions and prolific winner getters, she is out of a consistent two-time winning daughter of the three-time Group 1-placed Listed winner Vedodara (NZ) (Kreisler {Ire}) whose outstanding record as a broodmare fills the catalogue page!

All 11 of her foals to race are winners including the G1 Avondale Gold Cup winner Sharvasti (NZ) (Montjeu {Ire}), the dual Group 3 winner Bhandara (NZ) (Zabeel {NZ}) and the Group 3 galloper Shastri (NZ) (Stravinsky {USA}).

Vedodara is also grandam of the Group winners Semari (NZ) (Sebring) and Tourbillon Diamond (Olympic Glory {Ire}) and great-grandam of the 2024 G2 Autumn S. winner Snow Patrol (NZ) (Contributer {Ire}).

This is a prolific black-type family with this lovely dual-purpose filly also able to claim amongst her relations the Group 1 winners Linton (Galileo {Ire}), Barathea (Ire), Gossamer (GB) (Sadler's Wells {USA}), Ibn Khaldun (USA) (Dubai Destination {USA}), Santa Monica (NZ) (Per Incanto {USA}) and Bring Me Speed (Sebring).

There have been just two Toronado (Ire) runners out of mares with an O'Reilly (NZ) strain and both are winners including the dual Group winner Treasured Star. She is one of the four stakes winners amongst the 25 winners bred on the very successful Toronado/Last Tycoon (Ire) cross, one that provides for a cross of the terrific mare Sex Appeal (USA) (Buckpasser {USA}).

Veravarti, a $180,000 yearling and $500,000 broodmare purchase, is producing outstanding types with her latest son through the ring being the $400,000 colt I Am Adonis (I Am Invincible), a member of the Michael, John and Wayne Hawkes stable who just recently trialled well at Rosehill.

All of Champion Sire Written Tycoon's sons have been represented by stakes winners and they do a particuarly good job with the Redoute's Choice line (26 stakes winners, four Group 1 winners); a cross which provides for the duplication of the great mare Best In Show (USA) (Traffic Judge {USA}).

Written By is already line-bred to her, his second damsire Umatilla (NZ) being a son of Redoute's Choice's grandam Dancing Show (USA) (Nijinsky {Can}) and he has already sired two stakes winners; The Novelist and Ripcord out of Redoute's Choice-line mares.

This filly, who has a definite look of her sireline, is out of the proven producer Audacious Choice (Redoute's Choice), a consistent city-placed, two-time winner whose first two foals are both lightly raced winners and whose third, Presumptuous Gal (Toronado {Ire}), is a member of the Chris Waller stable.

Audacious Choice is one of the six winners produced by the G1 NZ Bloodstock Breeders S. winner Barinka (NZ) (Shinko King {Ire}) whose son Prime Star (Starspangledbanner) won the R. Listed Inglis Millennium.

There is a fair bit of history to this family, one of those special ones able to claim a G1 Melbourne Cup winner; in this case Red Handed (NZ) (Le Filou {Fr}).

By a high-class proven stallion out of a winning half-sister to the speedy Listed Quezette S. winner Elite Elle (Shamardal {USA}), this bright bay filly hails from a real runners family.

And that mare is one of the eight winners from as many to race for the Flemington winner Richelle (Century) who is in turn one of the nine winners from 11 named foals for the Listed Talindert H. winner Rich Habit (Karaman {NZ}).

That's 24 winners from 28 runners in three generations of Jaylo's family and there is plenty of quality there too with the stakes performers Classic Elle (Reset), Cancanelle (Danehill Dancer {Ire}), Don'ttelltheboss (Street Boss {USA}), Esroh (Perugino {USA}) and Gail (Bianconi {USA}) whose promising son Magnupur (Magnus) is a last-start Flemington winner whilst another relation in good form in 2024 was the dual city winner Herbert Park (Toronado {Ire}).

Wootton Bassett meanwhile has that stallion's three-quarter brother Nureyev (USA) and he picks up exceptionally well on Sadler's Wells influence with five of his Group 1 winners and another 19 of his stakes winners bred on this cross, one which provides for the duplication of the wonderful mare Special (USA) (Forli {Arg}).

He is a descendant of the legendary Mumtaz Mahal (GB) (The Tetrarch {GB}) with his fourth dam being the champion sprinter and Timeform Horse of the Year Habibti (Ire) (Habitat {USA}).

A member of the prolific "Leica" family, he is the fourth foal for a very good race mare, a Randwick and Warwick Farm winner who was twice placed in Group company. A $250,000 yearling and a $370,000 broodmare purchase, she has had two runners and both of those were smart 2024 winners.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Miss Amore (Pierro) bolted in at her Newcastle debut whilst True Amor (I Am Invincible), a $550,000 graduate of this sale, won his maiden for the John O'Shea and Tom Charlton stable at Kembla Grange in the spring.
