Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner early in its career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
Two exciting runners are looking for success across Australia on Tuesday. A promising Justify (USA) gelding looks hard to beat at Hawkesbury, and a well-bred The Autumn Sun filly chases maiden success at Bendigo.
Hawkesbury, Race 1, 1.50pm AEDT, Great Northern 4YO & UP Maiden Plate, $42,000, 1500m
Able Yellow, 4-year-old gelding (Justify {USA} x Srikandi {Dubawi {Ire}})
The Blake Ryan-trained Able Yellow (Justify {USA}), will make his third start over 1500 metres at Hawkesbury on Tuesday. He has run two very good placings in his career so far at Hawkesbury and Goulburn, and looks hard to beat in this maiden event.
Able Yellow is the fourth foal from the Dubawi (Ire) mare Srikandi, who was an outstanding nine-time winner. Her wins included the G1 Tattersall’s Tiara, G2 Victory Stakes, G3 Glenlogan Park Stakes, Listed Juanmo Stakes, and the Listed Silk Stocking Handicap.

She has started her stud career in solid fashion, leaving Billiondollarbaby (I Am Invincible) who has been a four-time winner, and Heroess (Snitzel) who was a winner at Gosford before retiring to stud.
Since producing Able Yellow, Srikandi has left a 3-year-old gelding by Justify (USA) named Justice Warrior, who has been placed on the track, a yearling colt by Home Affairs and was most recently served by Profondo.
Able Yellow sold for $200,000 at the 2022 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, to the bid of C H Ngai and Dermot Farrington Bloodstock, from the draft of Fernrigg Farm.
Apiam Bendigo, Race 2, 2pm AEDT, Bidfood Maiden Plate, $27,000, 1100m
Grinzinger Sun, 3-year-old filly (The Autumn Sun x Shirayuki {Jpn} {Kurofune {Jpn}})
Grinzinger Sun, a daughter of Arrowfield Stud’s stallion The Autumn Sun, will have her fourth start at Bendigo for Flemington trainer Danny O’Brien on Tuesday. She has run three very strong placings in her first preparation at Terang, Sale and Geelong, and with natural improvement from a nice break, and a couple of jump-outs, she looks hard to roll resuming.

The well-bred filly is the fourth foal from the Kurofune (USA) mare Shirayuki (Jpn), who was a winner as a juvenile in Japan.
She has started her broodmare career well, leaving the winners Unexpected (Jpn) (Smart Falcon {Jpn}), Kreon (Rulership {Jpn}) and Hakubi (Jpn) (Epiphaneia {Jpn}). She comes from a very good extended family with the stallions Neoealism (Jpn), Real Impact (Jpn) featuring.
Shirayuki, since producing Grinzinger Sun, has left a two-year-old colt by The Autumn Sun, a yearling colt by Castelvecchio, a colt foal by Castelvecchio, and she was subsequently served by Hitotsu last spring.
Grinzinger Sun was a $115,000 purchase by RMA Bloodstock and Danny O’Brien Racing, from the draft of Stonehouse Thoroughbreds at the 2023 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.
Looking Back
Sunday 16/3/25
Vistetto (NZ) (Tavistock {NZ}) - won very impressively at Yarra Valley, he thrived in the wet conditions and won with authority.
Watch Capital (Capitalist) - Unfortunately the Yarra Valley meeting was abandoned due to track conditions before Watch Capital got his chance, he will keep for another day.
