Buy into brilliance: Enbihaar treble to light up Riverside

9 min read
It’s not often a weanling, his Group-winning sister, and their blue-chip dam all hit the market in the same week, but that’s exactly what’s happening at Inglis. Lot 367 could light up Day 2, kicking off a rare three-part offering from one of Australia’s most exciting families.

There could be fireworks at the 2025 Inglis Australian Weanling Sale on Day 2 (Tuesday) as Lot 367, the Too Darn Hot (GB) colt out of the classy Magnus mare Enbihaar, is set to be one of the headline acts, and shapes as a potential sale-topper.

It could mark the beginning of a big few days for the family, with buyers offered a rare opportunity to tap into this exceptional pedigree, the weanling colt’s full sister, the highly talented Too Darn Lizzie (Too Darn Hot {GB}), and his dam Enbihaar (Magnus) will both go under the hammer at this year’s Inglis Chairman’s Sale on Thursday as Lot 17 and Lot 55 respectively.

Inglis CEO of Bloodstock Sebastian Hutch said the line-up represented “A unique set of circumstances to have the weanling, the dam, and then the best performed offspring from the dam all selling in the space of three days effectively.”

A rare elite weanling opportunity: By a sire that is 'hot'

The exciting Too Darn Hot (GB) weanling colt boasts a pedigree more commonly seen in an Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale catalogue and is expected to appeal to all major buyers.

His very successful sire Too Darn Hot, returns to Darley in 2025 at a service fee of $275,000 (inc. GST), after not shuttling during the 2024 breeding season.

Too Darn Hot has made an emphatic impact worldwide, and his statistics in Australasia are equally impressive. He has sired 89 runners for 49 winners, representing a strong winners-to-runners ratio of 55 per cent. Where he really stands out is in his ability to produce elite performers, as shown by his 10 stakes winners at a notable 11.2 per cent stakes-winners-to-runners ratio.

That list includes the recently retired four-time Group 1 winner Broadsiding, along with Shanwah, Rivellino, Too Darn Discreet, Too Darn Lizzie, Arabian Summer, Tropicus, Silmarillion, Perspiration and Superalloy.

This colt is the fourth foal out of the Group 2-winning juvenile Enbihaar (Magnus), a mare with both racetrack performance and early broodmare success.

Matt Comerford of Widden Stud, who are presenting the colt, commented:

“He’s a lovely colt, out of a proven mare, and a full brother to a very good filly (Too Darn Lizzie), as well as being by a classy stallion.

“He is a really good physical—strong, well built, and well put together. In fact, his inspections have been nearly yearling-like. Everyone has had a look.

“We think he will sell accordingly. He could be entered for whatever sale you would want him entered in. Pinhookers have that option, or an end user could purchase him. He will be well sought-after.”

Enbihaar’s first foal is Extremely Wicked (Zoustar), who was purchased by Bahen Bloodstock for $550,000 at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Weanling Sale. She is yet to win but has placed six times and appears capable of breaking through for maiden success.

Her second foal is the classy Too Darn Lizzie (Too Darn Hot {GB}), a Group 2 winner who we will go into more detail later, the third is the unraced 2-year-old Celtics (I Am Invincible), who was purchased for $700,000 by Rosemont Stud, Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA), and Mick Price Racing and he has shown promise in his trials.

After foaling this colt, Enbihaar was covered last spring by Widden Stud’s Zoustar.

Hutch added: “The Too Darn Hot weanling is a very good colt, and there is plenty to like about him.

“He looks a little different to Too Darn Lizzie, he is a bigger, scopier horse and it’s not hard to imagine him being in the mould of the good Too Darn Hot 3-year-old types.”

Enbihaar’s 2-year-old full sister Miss Celine (Magnus) added further black-type to the family when she won this season’s Listed Debutant Stakes for trainers Ben, Will and JD Hayes.

Enbihaar and Miss Celine are two of four winners out of the Listed Mode Plate winner Charm’s Honour (Strada). This is also the family of Group 1 Champagne Stakes winner Quick Star (Success Express {USA}).

Too Darn Lizzie: Enticing on the track, irresistible in the pedigree

Too Darn Lizzie looks one of the most exciting prospects to be offered for sale across Australia in 2025, both as a racing and future breeding proposition.

She has already lit up the sale ring once, fetching seven figures as a yearling when sold by Vinery Stud at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. She was purchased for a clean $1 million by McKeever Bloodstock, Watership Down Stud, and Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.

Trained by the Waterhouse and Bott team, Too Darn Lizzie made an immediate impact on debut, winning the Magic Millions 2YO Fillies Debut in January 2024 on the Gold Coast. She was then returned to Sydney, where she finished third in the G2 Reisling Stakes.

Resuming at three in the G2 Furious Stakes, Too Darn Lizzie was subsequently sent to Melbourne, where she rediscovered her best form. She produced a strong second in the Listed Jim Moloney Stakes, before breaking through at Group level in the G2 Thousand Guineas Prelude. That win came at the expense of Zeitung (Exceed And Excel), who franked the form by winning the G3 Vanity Stakes at her next start, and Geegees Mistruth (Wordsmith), the previously unbeaten Tasmanian juvenile who returned home after this run to win two Group 3s.

Too Darn Lizzie then battled hard to finish third in the G1 Thousand Guineas behind Another Prophet (Brazen Beau) and Aeliana (NZ) (Castelvecchio).

Her autumn campaign has underlined her consistency at Group level, placing in the G2 Angus Armanasco Stakes, G2 AV Kewney Stakes, and G3 Alexandra Stakes.

As only a 3-year-old, Too Darn Lizzie presents buyers with an enticing blend of racing potential and long-term broodmare value. She’s by an in-demand commercial sire, is a Group winner herself, out of a Group-winning mare, and could be sold just days after her full brother is expected to sell well as Lot 367 at the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale.

“Too Darn Lizzie is a fascinating prospect,” said Hutch. “She won a valuable 2-year-old race at the Gold Coast in January, was placed in the Reisling, won the Thousand Guineas Prelude, and placed in the Thousand Guineas.

“She has good form around horses like Aeliana and Treasurethe Moment.

“She’s pretty versatile, and her profile suggests she may even improve as a 4-year-old and she could be placed to advantage in good races around the country from six furlongs to a mile.

“There are so many races around for her, races like The Invitation, The Myer Classic at Flemington, valuable mares’ races in Sydney and Melbourne, The Golden Eagle, and further afield, there are good races for her in New Zealand, Queensland, and Perth. There really are options across the whole year.

“I don’t think it’s any secret that Lady Lloyd Webber and Andrew Lloyd Webber are going to protect her to a value, but it doesn’t take a lot of imagination to see her winning a lot of prizemoney next season or two, or maybe three, before she becomes a very valuable broodmare.”

Enbihaar: A rare opportunity to secure a young, proven mare

There is no doubt that Enbihaar is a collector's item broodmare and a unique offering, worthy of a spot in the Chairman’s Sale. A top-quality, proven-producing broodmare is a rare find, and Enbihaar a Group 2 winner, out of a Listed winner, a half-sister to a Listed winner, and the dam of a million-dollar Group 2 winner, and in foal to Zoustar. She presents an exceptional opportunity at Lot 55 in the Inglis Chairman’s Sale on Thursday.

Enbihaar was a very quick mare on the track. She won on debut at Morphettville as a 2-year-old, and then followed up with a victory in the G2 Blue Diamond Prelude (fillies) and a second-place finish in the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes, behind Written By. Hutch was understandably full of praise for Enbihaar:

“She has already bred a very good filly. She’s pregnant to Zoustar, who is a fantastic stallion and was a good race mare in her own right. Now, she’s a proven producer.” Hutch said

“You could easily breed her straight back to Too Darn Hot in 2025, and she is the kind of mare you could breed to a really strong lineup of outcross stallions in Australia, whether it’s Too Darn Hot, Wootton Bassett, Ole Kirk, there’s a bunch of them.

“In this part of the world, mares like this don’t go on the market very often, so we are very grateful for the opportunity. They are valuable stock, and whether it’s the weanling, Too Darn Lizzie, or Enbihaar, people aren’t going to part with them readily. But for the market to have the opportunity is a great thing.”

Presented again by Widden Stud, Comerford added his admiration for the mare, “Enbihaar is an exceptionally bred mare, and it’s a pleasure to present her. She is a young mare that has kicked off her career in great fashion. Rob (Cummings) has bred her very well, and she is in foal to Zoustar.

“She has plenty of upside. Whoever purchases her now has the option of going back to Too Darn Hot, or they could also go elsewhere. They’ll be well rewarded, and there’s no doubt she will be well sought after—there will be a lot of interest.”

With Miss Celine also being a half-sister and a stakes-winning juvenile, it highlights the precociousness and early speed within the page. Enbihaar is still a young proven mare at just nine years old and undoubtedly has much more to offer the lucky new owner.
