Lot: 746 - More Reward (Reward For Effort x Ashwaq (Galileo {Ire}) - $60,000
Buyer: Alwyn Park/Joslyn Summerhayes
Vendor: Sledmere Stud, Scone, NSW (As Agent for M Birchall)
Delving into the Magic Millions Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale, Western Australian breeder Joslyn Summerhayes did her research and was well rewarded by securing one of the bargains of the day, the talented and well related More Reward (Reward For Effort).
A daughter of Exceed And Excel's G1 Blue Diamond winning son Reward For Effort, More Effort raced well over sprinting trips early in her career.
Really appreciating a step up in distance when contesting the Listed Hill Smith Stakes over 1800m at Morphettville in the spring of 2022, the Dan Clarken & Oopy MacGillivray trained filly raced away to an impressive five length victory.

Bred by Chatswood Stud, home to her sire, she is out of the unraced Ashwaq (Galileo {Ire}), half-sister to the Listed Grafton Cup winner Ashraf (Danehill {USA}) from the same branch of the prolific La Troienne (Fr) (Teddy {Fr}) family as the big race winners Heritage Of Gold (USA) (Gold Legend {USA}), America Alive (USA) (American Chance {USA}) and Alcohol Free (Ire) (No Nay Never {USA}).
Boasting La Troienne duplications, Much Reward has a deep pedigree, something not missed by Summerhayes who was delighted to secure her as a match for Alwyn Park Stud's Maschino.
"I absolutely loved her pedigree and I am thrilled to bits to get her," said Summerhayes who had Magic Millions' David Houston on the complex bidding on her behalf.

"You don't often get a mare with a pedigree like her's," she said, particuarly excited by the presence of Galileo, noting that Maschino's multiple stakes winning, G2 WA Derby placed son Another Chino is out of a Galileo mare.
Summerhayes was also happy with More Reward's pregnancy, noting the good start Brave Smash (Jpn) has made to his stud career. He too is a horse who has fared well with Galileo, dam sire of his G3 Manfred Stakes winner Brave Mead.
A former racing journalist, Summerhayes bred last year's WA 2Y0 Magic Millions winner Big Shots (Sizzling).
She loves seeing big names in pedigrees having enjoyed international travels visiting stallions having been lucky enough to see the likes of Mr Prospector (USA), Nijinsky (Can), Raise A Native (USA), Seattle Slew (USA), Caro (Ire) and Alleged (USA).
Summerhayes will share in the ownership of More Reward with Alwyn Park's John Andrew who was also happy with the buy, "let's hope long term she proves to be a bargain," he said.
