Two Group 1 runners have Inglis excited for Ready2Race Sale's future

Inglis Ready2Race grads Libertad and Democracy Manifest clash in Saturday’s G1 Kingsford-Smith Stakes, underscoring the sale’s rising impact. Entries are now open for the 2025 edition, which shifts to the Thursday before The Everest. With Ka Ying Rising now running in Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Everest slot, international interest is set to climb as Inglis seeks Australasia’s top 2YO vendors for this evolving market.

Inglis have opened entries for the Inglis Ready2Race Sale to be held at Riverside in Sydney on Thursday October 16, two days before the G1 The Everest. Breeze ups will be held in New Zealand, at Taupo on September 29, and in Australia at Warwick Farm on the same day and Wangaratta on September 30.

“The traditional slot for the sale has been the Tuesday of that week. We’ve workshopped some ideas around it (the timing) and we couldn’t see any reason why it wouldn’t be a positive for the sale. It makes sense to have a go at it, and with Hong Kong’s greatest sprinter (Ka Ying Rising) now running on the Saturday in a slot subsidised by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, it should be a huge positive for the sale and for Hong Kong buyers who attend,” said Inglis CEO Sebastian Hutch.

“We typically have a lot of people attend from Hong Kong, and Tuesday allowed them to return for Wednesday night’s racing, but this year, we feel they can come for the sale on Thursday and stay for The Everest on Saturday.”

Two Group 1 runners headline graduates

Annabel and Rob Archibald’s 4-year-old entire Libertad (Russian Revolution) sold here for $210,000 and the Group 2 winner has earned over $630,000. He’ll run in Saturday’s G1 Kingsford-Smith Cup alongside fellow graduate Democracy Manifest (Flying Artie) who was bought by Allam Racing and Andrew Williams Bloodstock for $70,000, and he’s just tipped over $1 million in earnings ahead of Saturday’s Group 1.

“Libertad and Democracy Manifest run in the Kingsford-Smith Cup this weekend, and Rubylot who was placed in the G1 Champions and Chater Cup recently is also a graduate. It’s an ever-evolving list of good horses from the sale. Last year was our best crop so far, and we expect the list of graduates to get better over time.”

From the same sale as Libertad came Hong Kong’s Listed winner Rubylot (Rubick) who sold for $100,000 but the real bargain of the sale this season is recent Listed winner Title Fighter (Lean Mean Machine) who has turned his $20,000 price tag into over $550,000 in prizemoney earnings for his purchaser Ponderosa Park.

The sale's first million dollar lot

The 2024 Inglis Ready2Race Sale achieved it’s first million dollar lot when the Written Tycoon filly, now named Signature Scent, sold to Yulong from Baystone Farm’s draft for $1 million. She is a daughter of Group 1 winner Soriano (NZ) (Savabeel). The sale in 2024 saw 95 horses sold for an average of $164, 289 with a median of $100,000, which was up on 2023’s average of $106,248 and a median of $90,000.

In 2024, 28 lots sold for over $200,000 and eight realised $500,000 or more.

“It’s taken a while to establish this sale and now it’s a significant sale on the calendar. The New Zealand Sale (Ready To Run) has set the benchmark for 2-year-old sales in the Southern Hemisphere and we have a long term objective to deliver a better market in Australia. We’ve made good progress in recent years and are well positioned to keep getting to the point where buyers see 2-year-old sales as a source of high class horses in Australia and beyond.

“Ultimately, we want to get closer to where America are with a developed sophisticated market in this space, and we’ve invested a lot of time and money in this sale and in the format with the intent to develop a stronger vendor base including engaging more New Zealand vendors in this sale. We want to keep making this sale better and betters.”

Strong buying bench

Results like Rubylot, Libertad, and Democracy Manifest have resulted in a strong buying bench with Hutch saying, “Since the turn of the year, we have sold stock to buyers in 15 different countries around the world including the likes of Japan, China, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Taiwan and Mongolia and these extensive relationships are amongst those that we will be looking to leverage at the sale.

“Our International Business Development Manager Nicky Wong has been working tirelessly with buyers in any number of overseas jurisdictions to ensure unprecedented levels of international engagement with the Inglis Ready2Race Sale in 2025.

“We have set ourselves the objective of the 2025 sale being the best Inglis Ready2Race Sale yet and, off the back of a yearling sales series where Inglis generated market-leading levels of buyer engagement and participation, I am confident this can be the case.’’
