Looking Ahead - June 8

Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Two exciting runners are running across Australia on Sunday. A Snitzel colt makes his debut at Wyong, and an Almanzor (Fr) gelding chases maiden success at Swan Hill.

Wyong, Race 1, 12.05pm AEDT, Ezy Projects - Building Made Easy Maiden Handicap, $42,000, 1100m

Golden Straand, 3-year-old colt (Snitzel x Kryptelon {Falvelon})

The Matthew Smith-trained Snitzel colt, Golden Straand will be making his debut at Wyong on Sunday. He has had five educational trials to get himself ready for his debut run and looks well placed to feature in the finish in the hands of Alysha Collett.

This well-bred colt is out of Kryptelon (Falvelon), she was a sharp sprinter winning nine times up to 1350 metres. Included in her wins was a success in the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic.

She has also been successful at stud leaving four individual winners including the two-time winner Fling (All Too Hard) who was also placed as a juvenile in the G2 Sires’ Produce Stakes at Flemington.

Since producing Golden Straand, Kryptelon has left a 2-year-old colt by the exciting Ole Kirk, a yearling colt by Trapeze Artist, and is due to foal to Best Of Bordeaux this spring.

Brutalina was passed in short of her $200,000 reserve at the 2023 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale.

Swan Hill, Race 2, 12.10pm AEDT, The Federal Hotel Swan Hill Maiden Plate, $40,000, 1600m

Kingsford (NZ), 3-year-old gelding (Almanzor (Fr) x Fearless Choice {Lonhro})

Kingsford (NZ), a son of Cambridge Stud’s stallion Almanzor (Fr) will have his fourth start at Swan Hill over 1600 metres for trainer Matthew Williams on Sunday. He has shown glimpses of form in his career so far running in the top five each time and he finds a very suitable race to be very competitive in.

This promising gelding is the first foal from the Lonhro mare Fearless Choice who was unraced on the track.

She is from the classy family of the Group winners Amelia’s Dream (Redoute’s Choice), Amelita (Zousain), and About Time (NZ) (American Pharoah {USA}),

Fearless Choice, since producing Kingsford, has left 2-year-old and yearling colts by Hello Youmzain (Fr), and was served by Armory (Ire) last spring.

Kingsford was purchased for $60,000 by Cody Cole from the draft of Cambridge Stud at the 2023 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale.

Looking Back

Battle Tycoon (Written Tycoon) - Ran on nicely for seventh in debut at Ellerslie, it was a nice improvers run.

Providence (Wootton Bassett {GB}) - Ran fourth at Listed level at Eagle Farm, it was a good effort at only his second start.

Torotena (Toronado {Ire}) - Was disappointing running sixth on debut at Swan Hill.
