Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
Two exciting horses are hitting the track across Australia on Tuesday. A well-bred Lonhro colt looks hard to beat at Wyong, and a promising Russuan Revolution filly resumes on the Ballarat Synthetic.
Wyong, Race 3, 1.55pm AEDT, Austbrokers 2YO Maiden Handicap, $42,000, 1350m
Cabriole, 2-year-old colt (Lonhro x Flit {Medaglia D’Oro {USA})
The well-related Cabriole (Lonhro) is set to chase maiden success start for Godolphin’s head trainer James Cummings at start number two at Wyong over 1350 metres.
He ran a very good third behind promising types Autumn Boy (The Autumn Sun) and Central Coast (Wootton Bassett {GB}) on debut at Canterbury on June 25, Central Coast has been a subsequent metropolitan winner since, so the form looks strong.
Cabriole is the first foal from the Medaglia D’Oro (USA) mare Flit. She was a very talented four-time winner on the track, including in the G1 Thousand Guineas, G2 Light Fingers Stakes, G3 Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes and the Silver Eagle.
Lonhro | Stood at Darley Australia
Flit is very well-related being out of the Group 3 placed Glissade (Redoute’s Choice), and a half-sister to the stakes placed Flow (Street Cry {USA}), and Speedway (Street Cry {USA}) who is the dam of the outstanding Champion 2-year-old Broadsiding who was a winner at the elite level in the G1 Champagne Stakes, G1 Golden Rose, G1 Rosehill Guineas, and the G1 JJ Atkins Plate. He stands his first season at Darley stud at a fee of $66,000 (inc GST).
Flit since producing Cabriole, has produced a yearling filly called Scoot (Street Boss {USA}), and is due to foal to Too Darn Hot (GB) in September, after being served by Southern Hemisphere time in Great Britain last year.
Sportsbet-Ballarat Synthetic, Race 3, 2.30pm AEDT, Manhari Maiden Plate, $27,000, 1200m
Mohegan Goddess, 3-year-old filly (Russian Revolution x Mohegan Sky (USA) {Straight Man {USA}})
Mohegan Goddess, a daughter of Russian Revolution, will make her second start for trainers Ben, Will and JD Hayes on the Ballarat-Synthetic track over 1200 metres on Tuesday. Last preparation she ran an okay fifth at Cranbourne last December, before having a break. She has since had plenty of trials and jump outs where she has shown plenty of talent in preparation for her resuming run.

This well-bred filly is out of the American Listed winner Mohegan Sky (USA) (Straight Man {USA}), who has produced four winners including Little Brose, who was successful in the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes, and the Listed Merson Cooper Stakes as a juvenile. He is about to stand his first season at stud at Little Avondale Stud in New Zealand at a fee of NZ$15,000 (plus GST).
Unfortunately Mohegan Goddess was Mohegan Sky’s last foal as she died in 2022, she does have a nice range of her daughters breeding at stud, so the family will definitely continue to breed on.
Mohegan Goddess was withdrawn from both the 2022 Inglis Great Souterhn Weanling Sale, and the 2023 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale.
