Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
Two exciting horses are hitting the track across Australia on Tuesday. A well-bred So You Think (NZ) gelding looks hard to beat at Hawkesbury, and a Impending mare deserves maiden success at Bendigo.
Hawkesbury, Race 2, 1.25pm AEDT, St Johns Park Bowling Club Midway Maiden Plate, $45,000, 1300m
Wild Thoughts, 3-year-old gelding (So You Think (NZ) x Sauvignon {Pierro})
The promising Wild Thoughts (So You Think {NZ}) is set to have his second start at Hawkesbury over 1300 metres for trainer Kerry Parker on Thursday.
He ran a very nice third on debut at Kembla Grange back in January behind Modella (Castelvecchio), he has had a freshen-up since then, and has prepared for this resuming run with a nice trial victory at Kembla Grange on May 12 over 800 metres.

His dam Sauvignon (Pierro) only ran twice on the track, but has become a handy broodmare leaving two winners including Chilled (Shalaa {Ire}), who was a dual winner as a juvenile including in the Listed Without Fear Stakes, and the very promising Grand Eagle (Farnan) who has also been a dual winning juvenile and looks a potential blacktype quality 3-year-old from the Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou stable.
Further back in the family are the outstanding Group winners including Catchy (Fastnet Rock), Floozie (Zoustar), Cleo Cat (American Pharoah {USA}), and Cats Whisker (Fusaichi Pegasus {USA})
In recent times Sauvignon has left a weanling filly by Farnan, and is due to foal to Anamoe in October this year.
Wild Thoughts was purchased by Proven Thoroughbreds and Kerry Parker Racing for $45,000 from the draft at Valiant Stud at the 2023 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
Apiam-Bendigo, Race 4, 2pm AEDT, The Big Screen Company Maiden Plate, $37,500, 1600m
Tamahine, 4-year-old mare (Impending x Arohanui {Bianconi {USA}})
The Ciaron Maher-trained Impending mare Tamahine, will travel to Bendigo on Thursday to run over what looks a very suitable mile distance. She has been very consistent in her career so far, having placed in four of her six starts, so she is very much due a winning turn.

Tamahine is the fifth live foal out of Arohanui (Bianconi {USA}), she was a two-time winner on the track. She has also proven to be a very handy broodmare leaving four-winners including the Jericho Cup and Grand National Hurdle winner in Wil John (Reset), the stakes placed stayer Wahine Toa (Dalakhani {Ire}), three-time winner Aroha Te Mana (Von Costa de Hero), and the outstanding Another Wil (Street Boss {USA}) who is now a nine-time winner including at Group 1 level in the CF Orr Stakes.
Since producing Tamahine, Arohanui has produced an as yet-to-race Puissance De Lune (Ire) 3-year-old filly named Big Sister Ava.
Looking Back
Yamashita's Gold (Wootton Bassett {GB}) - Was a real forget run when running fifth at Sale, he got badly checked when he was about to make his run.
Raging Force (Cosmic Force) - Won very impressively at Kensington by just under 4 lengths, he is a talented juvenile and is one to watch.
Agatha (Capitalist) - Ran a solid third on debut at Kensington, she looked like she will improve off the experience but ran well.
