Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Two exciting runners are running across New Zealand and Australia on Sunday. A Trapeze Artist filly looks hard to beat at Sale, and a American Pharoah (USA) gelding chases his maiden victory at Tauranga.

Sale, Race 3, 12.25pm AEDT, Ladbrokes SRM in Multis Maiden Plate, $37,500, 1400m

Fumage, 3-year-old filly (Trapeze Artist x Firemaid (USA) {Machiavellian {USA})

Sale’s Sunday meeting will be the venue for the fourth start for the well-bred Fumage (Trapeze Artist). This promising filly ran solid races last campaign including a solid second at Geelong back in February.

After having a nice break, she has looked to have come back well when winning a jump out at Traralgon in the hands of raceday jockey Daniel Stackhouse over 1100 metres.

Trapeze Artist | Standing at Widden Stud

The well-related filly is the sixth live-foal from the Machiavellian (USA) mare Firemaid (USA), who was a two-time winner on the track and has then went on to become a very successful broodmare leaving four individual winners.

The best of these have clearly been the classy Shamal Wind (Dubawi {Ire}), she was an eight-time winner with her best win being in the G1 Oakleigh Plate, she was also successful another three times at Listed level and has subsequently gone on to leave five individual winners herself.

Firemaid since producing Fumage, has left a yearling filly by Toronado (Ire), and a Pinatubo (Ire) weanling filly.

Tauranga, Race 1, 10.10am, AEDT (12.10pm local), Container Co Maiden, $17,000, 1400m

Horrie (NZ), 3-year-old gelding (American Pharoah {USA} x Contessa Vanessa (NZ) {Bullbars})

The well-bred Horrie (NZ) (American Pharoah {USA}) may be making his seventh start for Pukekohe trainer’s Moira and Kieran Murdoch at Tauranga on Sunday. He looks hard to beat after running thirds at Tauranga and Matamata on similar heavy tracks at this last two starts.

American Pharoah (USA) | Standing at Coolmore America

Horrie is a son of Coolmore Stud’s former shuttling stallion American Pharoah (USA), and is out of the Bullbars mare Contessa Vanessa (NZ). She was a super tough and talented five-time winning mare, her wins included the G2 Eight Carat Stakes, and the G3 Sunline Vase. She also managed placings in the G1 NZ Oaks, G2 Royal Stakes, G2 Manawatu Challenge Stakes, G3 Eulogy Stakes, G3 South Island Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes, and the Listed Easter Cup.

Other stakes-performers within this family are Pivo City (Not A Single Doubt), Niki Piki Milo (NZ) (Librettist {USA}), Astor (NZ) (Iffraaj {GB}), Shuffle Dancer (I Am Invincible), The Dom (NZ) (Swiss Ace), Never Talk (No Nay Never {USA}), Forbidden City (I Am Invincible), and Bella Mente (NZ) (El Roca)

Contessa Vanessa’s further progeny include a 2-year-old filly named Wee Nessy (NZ) (Savabeel), a yearling filly named Lady Miranda (NZ) (Satono Aladdin {Jpn}), and a weanling filly by Vadamos (Fr).

Looking Back

Gatekeeper (Justify {USA}) - Was unfortunately scratched from his race at Rosehill.

Jimmy Recard (I Am Invincible) - Won very impressively at Flemington, he showed a goodd touch of class to get the job done.

Buccleuch (Peltzer) - Was dominant winning at Listed class at Flemington, he could not have been more impressive and is one to watch next season.
