Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
Two exciting horses are hitting the track on the Ballarat Synthetic on Tuesday. 3-year-old fillies by Blue Point (Ire) and Brave Smash (Jpn) both chase maiden success.

Kazza Joy, 3-year-old filly (Blue Point {Ire} x Khalama {Starspangledbanner})
Kazza Joy (Blue Point {Ire}) will run on the Ballarat Synthetic track on Tuesday for trainer Dan O’Sullivan, she made a promising first start for her new stable last start when running fourth behind Keeni (Pierata) over 1200 metres on the same track, and it looks like the step up to 1400 metres will suit.
The sprinting-bred filly is by Blue Point (Ire) and is the third foal from the Starspangledbanner mare Khalama, who was an six-time winner from 1000 metres to 1050 metres in Brisbane and New Zealand.

The family page is a little quiet up close in regards to stakes horses, but back further it is full of class, horses that feature are the Group winners I Am Me (I Am Invincible), One Last Dance (Encosta De Lago), One World (Danehill {USA}), Langoustine (Danehill), and the stallions Royal Academy (USA), Storm Cat (USA) and Satono Ares (Jpn).
Since producing Kazza Joy, Khalama has produced a 2-year-old filly by Toronado (Ire) named Tronada, a yearling filly by Written Tycoon, and a Russian Camelot (Ire) weanling colt, unfortunately she died not long after foaling that colt.
Kazza Joy was passed in short of her $80,000 reserve at the 2023 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

Brave Carol, 3-year-old filly (Brave Smash (Jpn) x Go Carol Go Manhattan Rain})
Ballarat’s Synthetic meeting on Tuesday will serve as the venue for the fifth start of Brave Carol, a progressive daughter of Brave Smash (Jpn), that is trained by Andrew Noblet. She won her maiden on the same track and over the same distance and looks the kind that could pick up another win or two over the next month or so.
Brave Carol is out of Go Carol Go (Manhattan Rain), who was a winner over 1400 metres. She comes from a solid family with a good amount of black type around.

Some of the stakes winners within the pedigree include her grandam Gina Lollawitcha (Perugino {USA}), Rainbiel (Toronado {Ire}), Ms Catherine (Shooting To Win), Lucky Witch (Voodoo Rhythm {USA}), Spirit Of Westbury (NZ) (Sir Tristram {Ire}), and Duke Of Westbury (NZ) (Sir Tristram {Ire}).
Since producing Brave Carol, Go Carol Go has left a yearling colt by Showtime, and is due to foal to Wooded (Ire) in September this spring.
Brave Carol was purchased by Andrew Noblet Racing for $30,000 from the 2023 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale.
