Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Three promising horses are hitting the track across Australia on Wednesday. Progeny by Capitalist, Ardrossan and Alabama Express are all chasing maiden success.

Warwick Farm, Race 2, 2pm, AEDT, Inglis Xtra Bonus Maiden Series 3YO Handicap, $55,000, 1200m

Lady Pankhurst, 3-year-old filly (Capitalist x Thunder Lady (NZ) {Mastercraftsman {Ire}})

The well-bred Lady Pankhurst (Capitalist) is set to resume at Warwick Farm on Wednesday as a 3-year-old after showing such promise as a juvenile last season.

As a 2-year-old, she was classy enough to place in the Listed Fernhill Mile behind Spicy Lu (Tagaloa), and she also placed in maiden company at Gosford. She has had a couple of trials at Randwick to prepare herself for her resuming run this Wednesday.

Lady Pankhurst is a daughter of Newgate Stud Farm’s star stallion Capitalist and is the fourth foal out of the Mastercraftsman (Ire) mare Thunder Lady (NZ).

Thunder Lady was a classy filly, and while she was only a maiden winner over 2000 metres, she showed her class as she placed in the G2 Wakeful Stakes, G1 Victorian Oaks and the G1 Vinery Stud Stakes as a 3-year-old filly.

Thunder Lady, since producing Lady Pankhurst, has left a 2-year-old filly by Russian Revolution, and she was due to foal to Stay Inside earlier this month.

Lady Pankhurst was purchased by G and G Bloodstock for $75,000 at the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Segenhoe Stud.

Sportsbet Sandown Lakeside, Race 1, 1pm, AEDT, Sportsbet Blackbook Maiden 3YO Plate, $55,000, 1200m

Kiwi Harmony (NZ), 3-year-old filly (Ardrossan x Do Ra Mi (NZ) {Savabeel})

The well-related Kiwi Harmony (NZ) is set to make her second start at Sandown on Wednesday over 1200 metres for trainers Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman. She ran a nice second at Cranbourne on August 1, and with natural improvement off that effort, she should be competitive in this event.

Kiwi Harmony is a daughter of Waikato Stud’s exciting Ardrossan and is the eighth live foal out of the Savabeel mare Do Ra Mi (NZ), who won the G2 Kewney Stakes on the track.

She has proven to be a reliable broodmare leaving four broodmares incuding the Group placed Hanger (NZ) (O’Reilly {NZ}).

She has a very solid pedigree, and some of the stakes winners that feature include Unique Jewellery (NZ) (O’Reilly {NZ}), Marju Snip (NZ) (Marju {Ire}), and Candide (NZ) (Sound Reason {Can}).

Since producing Kiwi Harmony, Do Ra Mi has left a 2-year-old colt by Banquo, and was due to foal to the same stallion earlier this month.

Dalziel Bloodstock and Moody Racing purchased Kiwi Harmony for $100,000 from the Waikato Stud draft at the 2024 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka National Yearling Sale.

Sportsbet Sandown Lakeside, Race 1, 1pm, AEDT, Sportsbet Blackbook Maiden 3YO Plate, $55,000, 1200m

Wetumpka, 3-year-old colt (Alabama Express x Casino Club {Casino Prince})

The promising Wetumpka (Alabama Express) is set to chase maiden success at his second start at Sandown on Wednesday for trainer Peter Gelagotis.

The son of Alabama Express ran a very good race for second behind She’s My Ex (Exceedance) on the Pakenham Synthetic on July 14, and has since won a jump-out at Pakenham last month.

Wetumpka is the fourth foal out of Casino Club (Casino Prince). She was a six-time winner from 1550 metres up to 2200 metres. She has already left the winners Capital Asset (Capitalist) and Cool Machine (Lean Mean Machine).

Retumpka’s grandam is Volted In (Rory’s Jester), a half-sister to the outstanding Anamoe, who was a nine-time Group 1 winner and now a stallion at Darley Stud.

Other Group 1 winners in the family include Dealer Principal (Flying Spur), Grand Armee (Hennessy {USA}), Drum (Marauding), and Anamato (Redoute’s Choice).

Since producing Retumpka, Casino Club has produced a Tagaloa yearling filly, and is due to foal next month to Better Than Ready.

Retumpka was purchased for $240,000 by Toking, Stephen Gray Racing and Wattle Bloodstock (FBAA) from the Yulong draft at the 2024 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.
