Looking Ahead - August 22

Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Two exciting 3-year-olds by Written Tycoon and I Am Invincible will be chasing maiden success at Geelong on Friday.

Ladbrokes Geelong, Race 1, 1.30pm AEDT, Viatek Fujifilm Maiden Plate, $32,000, 1112m

Bedourie, 3-year-old gelding (Written Tycoon x Talented {Written Tycoon})

The well-bred Bedourie (Written Tycoon), is set to make his fourth start over 1112 metres for trainers Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman at Geelong on Friday. He ran some good races as a juvenile, including a solid second at Cranbourne behind the talented Mrs Iglesia (Dirty Work), and a solid fourth in the $250,000 Vobis Gold Rush at Bendigo behind Killiana (Brazen Beau).

Resuming as a 3-year-old off the back of two jump-outs at Pakenham he looks a very good chance of running in the money.

Bedourie is the second foal from Talented (Snitzel), who was a dual winner and placed in the Listed Talindert Stakes, and the G3 Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes. Talented is out of the classy stayer Exceptionally (NZ) (Ekraar {USA}) who was a four-time winner from 1600 metres up to 2800 metres. Her best win was in the Listed St Leger.

Since producing Bedourie, Talented has left a 2-year-old by Tagaloa, and this month she had a Zoustar filly.

Bedourie was purchased for $525,000 by Moody Racing from the Yulong draft at the 2024 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

Ladbrokes Geelong, Race 2, 2pm, AEDT, Ladbrokes Form Genuis Maiden Plate, $32,000, 1212m

Bajaria, 3-year-old filly (I Am Invincible x Oregon’s Day {Domesday})

The well-bred Bajaria (I Am Invincible) is set to make her second career start at Geelong on Friday for her trainer Peter Gelagotis.

On debut, Bajaria ran a very good fourth at Bendigo where she attacked the line strongly over 1000 metres, the step up in trip and a handy barrier should be of big benefit to her in this race.

Bajaria is the third foal out of the very well-performed Oregon’s Day (Domesday), she was a five-time winner and won just under $1 million on the track. Her wins included the G2 AD Hollindale Stakes, G3 Frances Tressady Stakes, G3 Alexandra Stakes, and the Listed Thoroughbred Club Cup.

Oregon’s Day is also a half-sister to the G2 Perth Cup winner Talent Show (Jeune {GB}) and the Listed winner Oregon Spirit (Bel Esprit), and is out of the Group 3 winner Oregon Seal (NZ) (Oregon {USA}).

Oregon’s Day has since left a yearling filly by Snitzel, and is due to foal to Anamoe in late October.

Bajaria was purchased for $525,000 by Toking, Stephen Gray Racing and Wattle Bloodstock (FBAA) from the Segenhoe Stud draft at the 2024 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Looking Back

Unfortunately the Hawkesbury races were abandoned due to the continuing bad weather, West Of Swindon (Wootton Bassett {GB}) and Rajwa (I Am Invincible) will have to wait for another day.
