Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Three promising 3-year-olds are running across Australia on Saturday. Well-bred types by Toronado (Ire), Written Tycoon and Wootton Bassett (GB) are all chasing success.

Morphettville, Race 1, 12.17pm AEDT (11.47am local), Sportsbet Get On Extra 3YO Maiden Plate, $50,000, 1050m

Golden Guru, 3-year-old colt (Toronado (Ire) x Glam Guru {Medaglia D’Oro {USA}})

Morphettville’s Saturday meeting will serve as the venue for the debut of Golden Guru, a well-bred son of Toronado (Ire), trained by Andrew Gluyas. He has had a couple of trials to prepare himself for his debut effort over 1050 metres, which on breeding, looks too short but will be a nice starting point.

Golden Guru is the second live foal out of the talented mare Glam Guru (Medaglia D’Oro {USA}). She may have only won two races but was classy enough to pick up placings in the G2 Wakeful Stakes and the Listed Hill Smith Stakes.

She has started her broodmare career in outstanding fashion, leaving the G1 Victoria Derby and Listed Hill Smith Stakes victor in Goldrush Guru (American Pharoah {USA}).

There is plenty of depth to this family including the three-time Group 1 winner Gold Guru (Geiger Counter {USA}), the talented Group 2 Sandown Classic winner and later successful stallion Gallant Guru, and the Group 3 winners Gotta Go Guru (Fiorente {Ire}) and Gamblin’ Guru (New Approach {Ire}).

Since producing Golden Guru, Glam Guru has produced a yearling filly by St Mark's Basilica (Fr), and is due to foal to Pride Of Dubai in November.

Since producing Eaglerly Awaits, Mightily has produced a 2-year-old filly by Written Tycoon, a yearling filly by Written Tycoon, and she is due to foal to Pierata in early October.

Eagerly Awaits was originally purchased at the 2024 Inglis Easter Australian Yearling Sale by Ladbrokes Racing Club and Newgate Bloodstock for $200,000. She has since been purchased by Kingstar Farm for $60,000 at the 2025 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

Providence, 3-year-old colt (Wootton Bassett (GB) x Southbank {Fastnet Rock})

Rosehill’s Saturday meeting will serve as the venue for the fourth start of Providence, a well-bred son of Wootton Bassett (GB), trained by Chris Waller. He put in an outstanding effort to run third on debut at Randwick on May 24 behind the talented Agarwood (Wootton Bassett {GB}). At his subsequent runs as a juvenile, he finished fourth in both the Listed Phoenix Stakes and the G1 J J Atkins Stakes.

Providence is out of the talented mare Southbank (Fastnet Rock). Although she may have only won one race, she was very classy, placing in the G2 Thousand Guineas Prelude and the G1 Thousand Guineas.

Providence’s grandam is Rezoned (NZ) (Zabeel {NZ}), she was a Group 3 winner on the track, and also is a full sister to Preferment (NZ) (Zabeel {NZ}), who was a dual Group 1 winner and now stands at stud at Brighthill Farm in New Zealand.

Southbank, since producing Providene, has left a Too Darn Hot (GB) yearling filly, and is due to foal to Zoustar any day now.

Providence was purchased for $625,000 by China Horse Club, Newgate, Go Bloodstock and Trilogy from the draft of Bhima Thoroughbreds at the 2024 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
