Older horses

Magic Time, 6-year-old mare (Hellbent x Time Awaits {Nicconi})

“She did a very good job winning the Cockram on the weekend. She is a very good mare.

“She goes to the Manikato now, and then there are some lovely races in Sydney, possibly for the Invitation again.

“Going to the Manikato gives her a nice buffer of a month between runs and keeps that freshness in her legs, and it looks like a nice setup for her. She has been a wonderfully consistent mare at the top level, in fact, in her whole career, she has only had one start away from black type level, and that was in her maiden, which she won.”

Niance (NZ), 6-year-old mare (Swiss Ace x Cosmetic (NZ) {Red Giant {USA}})

“She runs on Saturday in the Moir Stakes, she has had a great preparation through the jump-outs and the trials to keep her up to the mark.

“It's only 1000 metres, but if you are running in Group 1 company you have to be right on top of your game. She missed last autumn due to a setback, but the plan was always to give her one run and then a little break.”

King Zephyr, 5-year-old gelding (Hallowed Crown x Divine Breeze {Smart Missile})

“He kicks off on Saturday. He has been nominated for two races, the Chautauqua and a benchmark race. If he doesn't get into the Chautauqua, he will run in the benchmark.

“He is quite an exciting prospect and has a good record. His only real blemish was last start up the straight on a deteriorating track.”

Royal Insignia, 4-year-old horse (Written Tycoon x Yau Chin {Tobougg {Ire}})

“He ran very well in the Regal Roller, he barrier trials at Caulfield, and then he goes to the Bobbie Lewis on the 13th up the straight at Flemington.

“He's a real dry track horse, so his first-up effort was very good on a softish track."

She’s A Hustler (NZ), 5-year-old mare (Ace High x Snow Petal {Bernardini {USA}})

“She trials at Caulfield, her main goal is the Tesio Stakes at Moonee Valley the night before the Cox Plate over 2000 metres.

“She will resume on the 21st of the month at Flemington, there is a 1800-metre mare race, and then she will run in between somewhere.”

Splash Back (Fr), 6-year-old mare (Le Havre (Ire) x Tamazirte (Ire) {Danehill Dancer {Ire}})

“She wasn't suited around the Morphettville Parks track but she ran well, she goes to the Let's Elope on the 13th of the month, and she will appreciate getting to Flemington.

“We had to run her somewhere, and that was really the only race we could find, and she ran well and picked up a placing in a Listed race. The trip away has helped season her up a little bit also.”

Miraval Rose, 5-year-old mare (Grunt (NZ) x Gypsy Tucker {Zabeel {NZ}})

“She will return in the Chautauqua on Saturday, and she will go down the mares' race path.”

3-year-olds

Biologics, 3-year-old filly (I Am Invincible x Fontein Ruby {Turffontein})

“She will resume in the Cap D'Antibes on the 13th at Flemington. She is a very well-bred filly, and we have a big opinion of her.

“They have made the Thoroughbred Club a million dollar race this year the week after the Flemington carnival, so that will be a nice target race for her.”

Ruska Roma, 3-year-old filly (Super Seth x Sansa (NZ) (Makfi {GB}})

“Won very nicely on Sunday at Seymour on a heavy track, we took the punt on taking her there, with Seymour being rebuilt not that long ago we thought it would be the best scenario for her on a heavy track, as at least it hasn't had all the wear and tear of other tracks.

“She got through the ground well and got the job done, she will more than likely head to the Jim Moloney in three weeks, and possibly into the Manifold Stakes and the 1000 Guineas, provided she keeps on ticking the boxes, of course.”

2-year-olds

“We have three very well-bred fillies that have been through the system. They are three that I can highlight, and they give us a chance to be competitive next year, and hopefully they measure up.

“They probably won't be seen this side of Christmas, but they are a group of lovely fillies.”

Unnamed, 2-year-old filly (Stay Inside x Californiasurprise {I Am Invincible})

Purchased by Grahame Begg Racing and Rohan Hughes for $300,000 from the draft of Alma Vale Thoroughbreds at the 2025 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
