Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Scoop The Pool, 3-year-old gelding (Super Seth x Rosa Vernans (Ire) {Sea The Stars {Ire}})
The John O’Shea and Tom Charlton-trained Scoop The Pool (Super Seth) will be making his second start at Warwick Farm on Wednesday. He ran a very good race for fourth on debut at Rosehill back in June, and after a break, has had two trials to prepare himself for his resuming run. Among them was a lovely trial win at Hawkesbury over 1000 metres.
Scoop The Pool is out of the Sea The Stars (Ire) mare Rosa Vernans (Ire), a winner at 2600 metres in France.

Since producing Scoop The Pool, Rosa Vernans has produced a 2-year-old filly by King’s Legacy, and was due to foal to Super Seth late last month.
Scoop The Pool was purchased for $180,000 by John O’Shea Racing, James Bester Bloodstock and B Rogers from the Bhima Thoroughbreds draft at the 2024 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Cantiamo, 3-year-old filly (Too Darn Hot (GB) x Valencay {Rothesay})
The promising Too Darn Hot (GB) colt, Cantiamo is set to make her third start over 1200 metres at Warwick Farm for trainer Kris Lees on Wednesday.
She looked smart winning at Kensington at her last start in maiden grade earlier this month, and looks the type to be able to step up in grade, and win again in the hands of James McDonald.
Cantiamo is the fourth foal out of Valencay (Rothesay}), who was placed on the track.

Pallaton, 3-year-old colt (Wootton Bassett (GB) x Anevay {Exceed And Excel})
The well-bred Pallaton (Wootton Bassett {GB}) is set to chase success at Warwick Farm on Wednesday in B72 company over 1000 metres for trainer Michael Freedman.
After showing promise as a juvenile, where he won on debut at Randwick, he had a nice break, and resumed with a very encouraging third in the Listed Rosebud Stakes behind Skyhook (Written Tycoon) and Grand Prairie (Written Tycoon) on August 16. That form looks even stronger now, as Grand Prairie was successful in the G3 Up And Coming Stakes last weekend.
Wootton Bassett (GB) | Standing at Coolmore
Pallaton is a son of Coolmore Stud’s star shuttling stallion Wootton Bassett (GB), and this colt is part of his first Australian crop. He is out of the Exceed And Excel mare Anevay. She was a talented filly and won twice, including in the Listed Talindert Stakes.
Anevay is very well related, being a half-sister to the stallion Krupt, who was also handy on the track, winning as a juvenile in the G2 Todman Stakes.
Anevay, since producing Pallaton has produced a 2-year-old colt by Smart Missile named Mitena, and she missed to Home Affairs last season.
