The dam of this impressive Capitalist colt is Amalfi Sky, a three-time winning Canadian-bred daughter of Sky Mesa.
This powerful colt is only her first foal, so the broodmare career of Amalfi Sky (Can) (Sky Mesa {USA}) is off to a promising start, going by what she has produced for Willow Park Stud first up.
The story behind Amalfi Sky
As with many imported mares, there’s a story behind how Amalfi Sky came to be in her owner’s possession.
“I bought the mare in Kentucky, and she was one of the first Willow Park Breeding partnership mares,” Glenn Burrows said.
“There are now 14 in total, and I've decided to go this way as previously these mares would be sold on but now when you look at what they are producing, I thought it was better for me to keep collateral in each of them whilst selling down varying percentages to clients.”

A talented mare with a strong page
Amalfi Sky was a talented race mare who built a solid record and hails from a family that consistently produces high-quality horses.
“Amalfi Sky was not overly raced and won three sprint races from the front at Canada's main track, Woodbine. Two of her wins were on turf, while the other was on synthetic. She only missed black type by a little over a length in a turf 5-furlong Listed event, so she certainly had ability.”
“Her dam has thrown 10 foals and all of them are winners with all except one winning from between US$120,000 to US$640,000, including Amalfi Coast, who was Canada's Champion Female Sprinter of the Year. In addition to her a further three of these 10 winners were either Group or Listed placed,” Burrows explained

Amalfi Sky’s sire, Sky Mesa (USA), was a Champion 2-year-old and has sired 79 stakes winners, including four G1 winners. He is also the broodmare sire of 45 stakes winners.
When asked about the type of mare that she is, Burrows commented.
“The mare herself is simply gorgeous, she stands 15.3 1/2hh and has tremendous strength, you could certainly see why she was so fast herself, she's also proving to be a wonderful first-time mum.”
A colt with sprinting power
Burrows describes Amalfi Sky as a mare of tremendous strength, and that has been doubled up through her mating with Capitalist, a stallion renowned for his muscle and speed.
Capitalist was a four-time juvenile winner, including the G1 Golden Slipper, R. Listed Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic, R. Listed Magic Millions 2YO Classic, and the Listed Breeders’ Plate.
Precocious, strong and fast, he stamped himself as a top-class juvenile, and with the strength of this colt’s pedigree, it would be no surprise to see him follow in similar footsteps.
“We couldn't be happier with her colt, he's of good size, he has both Mum and Dad's sprinting power, and he looks a sure-fire runner, and will get this extremely well credentialed mare off to a flier of a start at stud.”

The colt has made such an impression on Burrows and the Willow Park team that they have re-assessed Amalfi Sky’s mating plans.
"Originally, the mare was going to an extremely well-credentialed first-season sire, however, after seeing this colt get better and better, we have no option but to replicate the mating.
“So she will head back to Capitalist.”
