Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Two well-bred runners are taking their place at Newcastle and Ballarat on Friday, promising runners by Frankel (GB) and Snitzel are both looking to make their mark.

Magenta Skies (GB), 3-year-old filly (Frankel (GB) x Fireworks {Snitzel})

The very promising Frankel (GB) filly Magenta Skies (GB) is making her second start at Newcastle on Friday over 1400 metres for trainer Michael Freedman.

The Fairway Thoroughbreds-bred and owned filly ran a very nice third on the same track late last month over 1250 metres, and the extra distance and better track conditions look likely to suit this very well-bred filly.

Magenta Skies is the fourth foal out of Fireworks (Snitzel) who was a winner as a juvenile in the G3 Widden Stakes, she has proved herself as a broodmare leaving the dual Listed winner Millane, and two other individual winners.

Fireworks is a half sister to the New Zealand Group 1 winner Calveen (NZ) (Canny Lad) and is also related to the stakes winners Francee (NZ) (Iffraaj {GB}), Kosi Bay (NZ) (Spinning World {USA}), Striker (NZ) (Van Nistelrooy {USA}), First Impressions (NZ) (Rip Van Winkle {Ire}) and Pareanui Bay (NZ) (Lonhro).

In recent years Fireworks has left a 2-year-old named Beachside (GB) (Frankel {GB}), a yearling colt by Frankel , and a filly foal by Home Affairs last month.

Keepsake, 4-year-old mare (Snitzel x Traceablity {Charge Forward})

The well-bred Snitzel mare Keepsake is set to make her third start over 1000 metres for trainers Tony and Calvin McEvoy at Ballarat on Friday.

She was an impressive winner on the same track back in March, and since having a good break, she has won both her jump-outs at Flemington in stylish fashion.

In Summer is the seventh-foal out of the Charge Forward mare Traceability . She was unraced, but is well bred with plenty of Group 1 performers and stallions in her pedigree including Master Of Design, Danasinga, Suntagonal (Octagonal), Tracy’s Element (Last Tycoon {Ire}), Typhoon Tracy (Red Ransom {USA}), Towkay, Kylikwong (Red Ransom) and Alligator Blood (All Too Hard).

Snitzel | Standing at Arrowfield Stud

Traceability has also had good success at stud leaving the South African Listed winner Traces (Snitzel), the Group 3 placed colt in Spring Loaded (Redoute’s Choice), the 3-time winner Windshadow (Redoute’s Choice), and another 3-time winner in Unravel (Snitzel),

Traceability since producing Keepsake has left a 3-year-old filly named Mediterra (Snitzel) and a yearling colt by Maurice (Jpn).

Keepsake was passed in short of her $300,000 reserve at the 2022 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
