Tickover trial for Jimmysstar ahead of Premiere

The G1 Everest slotholder Jimmysstar (NZ) (Per Incanto {USA}) had an easy hit-out on Tuesday morning at Rosehill Gardens, comfortably winning a tick-over trial ahead of the G2 Premiere Stakes on October 4. The Ciaron Maher-trained gelding is following the same route taken by Maher’s 2024 Everest star Bella Nipotina (Pride Of Dubai), having run fifth in the G3 Concorde Stakes last start.

The gelding won Tuesday’s trial by just shy of one and a quarter lengths, with Shezanalister (Star Turn) chasing hard for second place.

Jimmysstar is one of seven confirmed runners for the 2025 The Everest. His full brother In'Kantosstar (NZ) was a $260,000 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale purchase for Group 1 Bloodstock (FBAA) last year and has a similar ownership group, led by Ozzie Kheir. The 3-year-old is as of yet unraced in the Maher stable.

Gallo Nero preps for big spring

Group-placed as a juvenile, Gallo Nero (Wootton Bassett {GB}) made a statement at Rosehill on Tuesday in the first public hit-out of his 3-year-old season. The Hawkes Racing-trained colt, who was a winner in December and third in the G2 Champagne Classic in the autumn, coasted away from the pack in the home straight, with only multiple stakes winner In Flight (Flying Artie) keeping pace to finish a quarter of a length behind him.

Purchased by his trainers for $370,000 from Glenbeigh Farm’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale draft, Gallo Nero is the first foal from juvenile winner Chianti (I Am Invincible), a daughter of multiple stakes winner Sweet Sanette (SAf) (Jallad {USA}). Chianti has an Anamoe filly to go to the sales in 2026, and produced a colt by the same sire in early August.

Untapped Ask Di sprints to trial win

Unraced 3-year-old Snitzel filly Ask Di was impressive at Rosehill on Tuesday morning, where she had her second lifetime trial and came home with the win. Trained by Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou, the filly tracked leader Sassy Abbey (Zousain) into the home straight before letting down impressively to beat her by one and three quarter lengths.

A $575,000 Gold Coast purchase for her trainers from the draft of Tyreel Stud, Ask Di is the first foal from multiple stakes performer Festival Miss (Bernardini {USA}), whose dam is a half-sister to the dam of Arcadia Queen (Pierro) and her stakes-winning siblings.

A full brother to Ask Di was snapped up by Tom Magnier for $1.5 million at this year’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. Festival Miss has a colt by Pierro bound for next year’s sales, and delivered a Wootton Bassett (GB) filly in August.

Lady Of Five streaks in at Doomben

Juvenile filly Lady Of Five (Hanseatic) had been a dominant trial winner by over 11 lengths at the end of last month, and she made similar short work of her opponents into another Doomben trial on Tuesday morning.

Trained by Peter and Will Hulbert, the filly skipped away to a four and a half length victory over I Am That Girl (I Am Invincible) in the third fastest trial of the morning.

Hulbert Racing purchased Lady Of Five as a weanling for $18,000 from Rosemont Stud’s Inglis Great Southern Sale draft in 2024. She is the second foal from multiple stakes performer Oh Five Glory (Unencumbered), who descends from blue hen mare Special (Habituate {Ire}).

Oh Five Glory has a full sister for the 2026 yearling sales circuit, and is currently in foal to Doull. Hanseatic's first crop, who are now 3-year-olds, has produced eight winners and three stakes performers, including G3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes-placed Befuddle.

Run Like A Girl speeds away on debut

Supido filly Run Like A Girl lived up to her name when taking out the second juvenile heat at Doomben on Tuesday morning. Trained by Paul Butterworth, the 2-year-old fended off Boomelli (Spirit Of Boom) to take the 840-metre heat by a third of a length at her first public outing.

Run Like A Girl’s trainer paid $20,000 for her at the Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale, where she was offered by KBL Thoroughbreds. She is a half-sister to Listed Welcome Stakes winner Bona Sforzza (Written By) out of stakes-placed Thwayya (Snitzel), who missed this season to Jacquinot.
