Bedggood gave The Thoroughbred Report an update on the plans for some of the stable’s established stars, and insight into a promising 2-year-old by Shalaa (Ire) that could be one to watch out for this season.

Older horses

Kingswood (GB), 6-year-old horse (Roaring Lion (USA) x All At Sea (GB) {Sea The Stars {Ire}})

“He will probably head towards the Hill Stakes in Sydney in three weeks, in Melbourne he would have to take on the likes of Via Sistina and Treasurethe Moment so he looks better placed up there."

"He kicked off his preparation with a very good second, and the winner (Golden Path) backed up that form with a close third in the G1 Underwood Stakes on Saturday.”

Mornington Glory, 7-year-old gelding (Shalaa (Ire) x Crowned Glory {Danehill {USA}})

“He has gone to the paddock, he will come back for the Autumn. He will tell us, he will have to come back in better form than he showed us this campaign, his races will be dictated by his high rating.”

Jennilala, 6-year-old mare (Shalaa (Ire) x Rosarian {Manhattan Rain})

“So far, so good in terms of pulling up well from her run in the Group 1 on Saturday (Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes). She will head towards the Jeweller's Vase over the mile on Caulfield Guineas day.”

Diwali, 5-year-old gelding (Tavistock {NZ}) x Belongs In Lights {Belong To Me {USA}})

“We will probably head to the Coongy first-up with him, his main target race this preparation will be the 2800-metre race on Melbourne Cup Day.”

Enamorada, 4-year-old mare (So You Think (NZ) x Fortune Of War {General Nediym})

“She won quite well last week and she is untapped, we won't be placing her too aggressively, we will look to work her through the grades and teach her how to be a racehorse.

“She will either go to a Fillies and Mares 70 at Seymour over 1300 metres, or a BM66 1300-metre at Sandown Wednesday week.”

Shiny New Deel (NZ), 5-year-old gelding (Dundeel (NZ) x Sparkle And Shine {Exceed And Excel})

“It was a good win today (Wednesday) at Sandown, it’s great to see him finally start to put it all together, he’s been frustrating but, the ownership have been really patient.”

Hedged, 5-year-old gelding (Capitalist x Acing Shamrock {Fastnet Rock})

“He trialled very well this morning, he's pretty much ready to go now and will target the Apache Cat Sprint at Cranbourne in a couple of weeks time.”

3-year-olds

Hot Sea, 3-year-old gelding (Too Darn Hot (GB) x Seannie {Sebring})

“He will trial next Monday, he was stakes-placed on debut and he has shown us plenty. He will kick off in a maiden soon, we will be looking for a first-up win and then we can get a bit more aggressive with our placement.

“He is the only Too Darn Hot in the stable, but we would love to have a few more for sure.”

Yamashita's Gold, 3-year-old gelding (Wootton Bassett (GB) x Fortune Of War {General Nediym})

“He was gelded last week and has gone to the paddock. He has shown enough but the gelding was going to be inevitable as he is not top shelf, so it was better getting it done sooner than later.”

Axiom, 3-year-old gelding (Exceedance x Nothing Compares (NZ) {Jakkalberry {Ire}})

“He has done a lot wrong in his last two starts to date, which has been disappointing to see him do that as he has been pretty well schooled at the trials - he got away with it on debut, but it was costly for him the other day. So we will probably give him one more and maybe go for a spell.”

On The Prowl, 3-year-old gelding (Peltzer x Ocean Spray {Fastnet Rock})

“He has shown enough at home, he was good on debut, he most likely runs at Geelong on Thursday in a 1100-metre maiden.”

Sky Deel, 3-year-old gelding (Dundeel (NZ) x French Skyline {Manhattan Rain})

“He is still a maiden but I do like him. He placed in town on debut, he will have another trial next Monday, and the aim is to win a maiden pretty quick with him, he has shown metropolitan type ability.”

Lope De Lardo (NZ), 3-year-old gelding (Belardo (Ire) x Acantha (NZ) {Iffraaj {GB}})

“He won his second start at Geelong as a 2-year-old and at his last start he ran a good third at Sandown behind a promising one. He will trial next Monday and will be ready to go again probably mid-week in town.

2-year-olds

Unnamed, 2-year-old colt (Shalaa (Ire) x M'Lady Pedrille {Al Maher})

“We have a nice Shalaa colt, I like him and he has shown enough, he had a baby jump-out down the back straight at Cranbourne , then went out and has come back in seven days ago. You could see him in a race like the Maribyrnong Plate or something like that.”
