Looking Ahead - October 03

Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Two well-bred 3-year-olds are taking their place at Moonee Valley on Friday. Promising runners by Lonhro and Tassort are both chasing maiden success at start number two.

Cabriole, 3-year-old colt (Lonhro x Flit {Medaglia D’Oro {USA})

The well-related Cabriole (Lonhro) is set to chase maiden success start for his new trainers, Anthony and Sam Freedman at start number two at Moonee Valley over 1200 metres.

He ran a very good third behind promising types Autumn Boy (The Autumn Sun) and Central Coast (Wootton Bassett {GB}) on debut at Canterbury back in June, which looks very strong form for a maiden race.

Lonhro | Standing at Darley

Cabriole is the first foal from the Medaglia D’Oro (USA) mare Flit. She was a very talented four-time winner on the track, including in the G1 Thousand Guineas, G2 Light Fingers Stakes, G3 Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes and the Silver Eagle.

Flit is very well-related being out of the Group 3 placed Glissade (Redoute’s Choice), and a half-sister to the stakes placed Flow (Street Cry {USA}), and Speedway (Street Cry {USA}) who is the dam of the outstanding Champion 2-year-old Broadsiding who was a winner at the elite level in the G1 Champagne Stakes, G1 Golden Rose, G1 Rosehill Guineas, and the G1 JJ Atkins Plate.

He is currently standing his first season at Darley stud at a fee of $66,000 (inc GST).

Flit, since producing Cabriole, has produced a 2-year-old filly named Scoot (Street Boss {USA}), and foaled a colt by Too Darn Hot (GB) in September after being served by him last season to Southern Hemisphere time in Great Britain.

Miss Deceiver, 3-year-old filly (Tassort x Little White Lies {Snitzel})

Moonee Valley's Friday meeting will be the venue for the second start of Miss Deceiver (Tassort). This promising Ciaron Maher-trained 3-year-old filly ran a lovely third on debut at Geelong on September 12, and she looks to be a likely improver off her debut effort.

The sharply-bred filly is the first foal from the Snitzel mare Little White Lies, who was a two-time winner over 1200 and 1300 metres on the track.

Little White Lies is a half sister to Tell Me (Choisir), a four-time winner who was placed in the Listed Gosford Guineas. Further back in the family is the Listed winner Noctunelle (Elusive Quality {USA}), who is the dam of the promising young Group winning sire Dracarys.

Little White Lies, since producing Miss Deceiver, has produced a yearling colt by Capitalist, and foaled a Tassort colt late last month.

Miss Deceiver sold for $20,000 at the 2024 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale, with Flying Start Syndications and Pinhook Bloodstock (FBAA) being the successful purchasers from the draft of Emirates Park.

Looking Back

Hayek (Capitalist) - Won very nicely at Newcastle, he led all the way and was dominant.

Green Spring (Lucky Vega {Ire}) - Ran very greenly for fourth at Newcastle, he should improve with the experience.
