Looking Ahead - October 05

Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Two well-bred 3-year-old fillies, both coming off impressive last-start wins, go head-to-head at Bendigo on Sunday.

Serinda, 3-year-old filly (Brutal (NZ) x Absolut Glam {Snowland})

The promising Brutal (NZ) filly Serinda makes her third start at Bendigo on Sunday, and the Danny O’Brien-trained filly is looking to taste success up in grade after impressively winning her maiden on the same track and over the same distance.

Serinda is the ninth live foal of G1 Tatt’s Winter Stakes winner Absolut Glam (Snowland). Absolut Glam has also produced G3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes winner Jazz Song (Fastnet Rock), the dam of the six-time winner Sword Point (American Pharoah {USA}), who has been multiple stakes placed in both Australia and Hong Kong.

Serinda was purchased by Danny O’Brien Racing for $250,000 from the Newgate Farm draft at the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

In recent years, Absolut Glam has produced a yearling filly by Extreme Choice, and earlier this month, she foaled a Stay Inside filly.

Pure Passion, 3-year-old filly (Snitzel x Snogging {I Am Invincible})

Bendigo is the venue for Pure Passion (Snitzel) to chase her second career win after winning her maiden at Kilmore last month in impressive fashion. The well-bred daughter of Snitzel from the Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman stable had already run placings at Group 3 and Listed level, so she deserved her maiden win and looks the type to kick on with the job.

Pure Passion is out of the talented mare Snogging (I Am Invincible), who was successful four times from 1300 metres to 1600 metres, she also placed in the G2 Queen Of The Turf Stakes and the Listed Centaurea Stakes. Further back in the family are the talented New Zealand-bred trio of El Vencedor (NZ) (Shocking), Chocante (NZ) (Shocking) and Sky Darci (NZ) (Darci Brahma {NZ}).

Snogging’s further progeny since producing Pure Passion, includes a 2-year-old filly by Stay Inside, a yearling filly by Snitzel, and foaled a colt earlier last month by Coolmore Stud’s Golden Slipper winning son of Snitzel in Shinzo, before she sadly died a couple of weeks later.

Pure Passion was purchased for $950,000 by KPW Bloodstock from the Silverdale Farm draft at the 2024 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
