Evergreen Stud Farm is spending their Sunday celebrating the debut Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes win by the colt they bred, Eurocanto (Per Incanto {USA}).
They purchased his dam, Shespending (NZ) (Savabeel) at the 2023 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in foal to Per Incanto (USA) from Sullivan Bloodstock for $260,000. That covering resulted in Listed winner Eurocanto.
Shespending produced a filly by G1 Golden Slipper winner Farnan in 2025. “She’s a lovely filly. It’s early days but I really like the mare,” said Evergreen Stud Farm’s Aaron Bott.
“She’s a nice racey type. We have got the yearling (full brother) too, and he looks to be a nice early runner. It’s a pretty good upgrade for the mare.”

Eurocanto comes out running
After buying Shespending in May 2023, she produced a colt by Per Incanto the following spring. Evergreen Stud Farm took him to 2025 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale where Lindsay Park Racing paid $250,000 for him.
“Eurocanto was a really nice type,” said Bott. With his first win, he earned $107,000 with plenty more to come. His trainers, the Hayes brothers, drew similarities to their G1 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Little Brose, who now stands alongside his sire Per Incanto at Little Avondale Stud.
“It’s a little bit early, but he was a little ‘Brosey’ there. It was a terrific ride. He got last crack at them, and he attacked the line which is what you like to see. We’ll see how he pulls up - it would be tempting, all systems go, to go into Cup week, but first and foremost we’ll see how he is first thing in the morning,” JD Hayes said immediately after the win yesterday.
Connections to the family
“We bought the mare in foal to Per Incanto. I love him as a sire and the family is a great Waikato Stud family, plus Adrian and Gai trained the sister,” said Bott, whose brother Adrian trains in partnership with Gai Waterhouse.
Shespending is a full sister to Listed Lonhro Plate winner Tilianam (NZ), who was trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott for her two and 3-year-old seasons. Tilianam won her first two starts including the Listed Lonhro Plate, and at the end of her 3-year-old season was transferred to Tony Gollan where she won three more races in Brisbane.

Tilianam and Shespending are out of Listed VRC AR Creswick Stakes-placed Spending (NZ) (Pins). This is the family of Group 1 winner and sire Sacred Falls (NZ), Hong Kong Group 3 winner Packing Pins (NZ) (Pins), G2 Angus Armanasco Stakes winner Shopaholic (NZ) (Pins) and G2 Manawatu Challenge Stakes winner Splurge (NZ) (Savabeel).
“She’s had nice foals so far for us. She had one in New Zealand before we bought her.”
Before she was purchased by Evergreen Stud, Shespending had a filly by Per Incanto in New Zealand who is the unraced 3-year-old filly Shoebill (NZ). Shoebill was sold by Little Avondale Stud at the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale for NZ$260,000 to Forsman Racing, Andrew Williams Bloodstock (FBAA) and Bevan Smith.
The choice to send Shespending to Farnan
Evergreen Stud Farm do the early education for the Waterhouse and Bott stable, which means they often get to see the stock of young sires under saddle before they head to the races. Bott uses this knowledge to take a punt on stallions who haven’t had runners yet but have stock in their system who are showing promise.
Their 2025 filly by Farnan is from his fourth crop.
“We really like Farnan. I like the types he’s leaving and the attitude of his first crops. We’ve had a few through the system here. They are doing the job and we think they will only improve.”

Second season sire Farnan has sired 19 winners from his first crop who are now 3-year-olds. He enjoyed a strong beginning last season with three juvenile Group winners, being King Of Pop, North England, and Recuperato. He also has Group-placed winners Farcited and Farnicle.
“Even though she’s a Savabeel mare, there’s 2-year-old speed in the family with her sister winning a Listed race in Sydney. She’s a nice big strong mare and that compliments Farnan well.”
And for next season? “She’s holding a cover to Pinatubo. I like his stock. It’s a punt year for him obviously.”
Pinatubo (Ire)’s oldest Southern Hemisphere crop has just turned two.

“I really like his progeny so far. We haven’t had too many in our system, but I’ve seen a lot at the sale. He’s a nice style of horse and I like the way his progeny look.
“Pinatubo was a brilliant racehorse, and the mating captures him (Eurocanto) on the breeding match up. Shamardal is closely related to Street Cry which is the Per Incanto line as well.”
Pinatubo is a son of Shamardal (USA) whose dam Helsinki (GB) (Machiavellian {USA}) is a full sister to Street Cry (Ire). And Per Incanto is a son of Street Cry, so the resultant 2026 foal from Shespending will be bred on similar lines to Eurocanto.
