Looking Ahead - October 12

Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Two well-bred 4-year-old mares by The Autumn Sun and Pierro, are both chasing success at Seymour on Sunday.

Tempranillo, 4-year-old mare (The Autumn Sun x Pierrocity {Pierro})

The Chris Waller-trained Tempranillo (The Autumn Sun) will make her sixth start at Seymour over 1200 metres on Sunday. She has been a consistent performer in her career so far, placing in three of her five starts. While this distance looks short of her best, she may give some cheek in a fresh state.

The promising filly is the first foal from the four-time winning Pierro mare Pierrocity, she also ran fourth in the G2 Championship Stakes at Ellerslie.

This family has so much depth to it, Tempranillo’s grandam is Dane Ripper (Danehill {USA}), she was a star on the tracker winning 12-times from 1000 metres to 2050 metres, including the G1 Australian Cup, G1 WS Cox Plate, G1 Manikato Stakes and the G1 Stradbroke Handicap.

She has gone onto leave six winners including the stakes placed Switchblade (Fusaichi Pegasus {USA}) and Star Ripper (Encosta De Lago).

Pierrocity has since produced a 3-year-old filly named Peccavi (The Autumn Sun), and 2-year-old and yearling colts by Maurice (Jpn).

Tempranillo was purchased for $270,000 by Damien Fitton and Chris Waller Racing from the draft of Arrowfield Stud at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Keepsake, 4-year-old mare (Snitzel x Traceablity {Charge Forward})

The well-bred Snitzel mare Keepsake is set to make her fourth start over 1000 metres for trainers Tony and Calvin McEvoy at Seymour on Sunday

She was an impressive winner on the same track back in March, and since having a good break, she resumed with a solid fourth at Ballarat last month behind El Salto (Written Tycoon).

Snitzel

Keepsake is the seventh-foal out of the Charge Forward mare Traceability. She was unraced, but is well bred with plenty of Group 1 performers and stallions in her pedigree including Master Of Design, Danasinga, Suntagonal (Octagonal), Tracy’s Element (Last Tycoon {Ire}), Typhoon Tracy (Red Ransom {USA}), Cullen, Towkay, Kylikwong (Red Ransom) and Alligator Blood (All Too Hard).

Traceability has also had good success at stud leaving the South African Listed winner In Traces (Snitzel), the Group 3 placed colt in Spring Loaded (Redoute’s Choice), the 3-time winner Windshadow (Redoute’s Choice), and another 3-time winner in Unravel (Snitzel),

Traceability since producing Keepsake has left a 3-year-old filly named Mediterra (Snitzel) and a yearling colt by Maurice (Jpn).

Keepsake was passed in short of her $300,000 reserve at the 2022 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Looking Back

Lady Of Five (Hanseatic) - Led all the way at Eagle Farm, it was an impressive effort, and a good win by the promising 2-year-old filly.

Bella Wahine (Wootton Bassett {GB}) - The meeting at Kembla Grange was abandoned, so this filly will have to wait for another day.

Farnicle (Farnan) - Ran a solid second at Rosehill, he looks close to another win,
