Looking Ahead - October 30

Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Two promising 3-year-olds by Super Seth and Shalaa (Ire) chase maiden success at Wyong on Thursday.

Super Scotch (NZ), 3-year-old colt (Super Seth x Hopscotch (NZ) {O’Reilly {NZ}})

The John O’Shea and Tom Charlton-trained Super Scotch (NZ) (Savabeel) makes his second start at Wyong on Thursday over 1600 metres, after running a fast-finishing third on debut at Kembla Grange behind Savvy Spy (NZ) (Savabeel).

The promising colt is out of the unraced O’Reilly (NZ) mare Hopscotch (NZ). She made a fantastic start to her broodmare career for Waikato Stud with her first foal being the G1 New Zealand Oaks winner Amarelinha (NZ) (Savabeel)

She is also well-related being a half sister to the four-time Group 1 winner Metal Bender (NZ) (Danasinga), and a three-quarter-sister to Up In Lights (NZ) (O'Reilly {NZ}), the dam of North Pacific. North Pacific was a Group 3 winner, who also placed in the G1 Golden Rose Stakes before retiring to stand at Newgate Farm.

In recent years, Hopscotch has not had a lot of luck at stud, missing twice to Savabeel after producing Super Scotch, but she does have an Ardrossan yearling filly, and is due to foal to the exciting Noverre (NZ) in late November.

Super Scotch was purchased for $300,000 by John O’Shea Racing, James Bester Bloodstock and E Lucas from the Waikato Stud draft at the 2024 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Confidentiality, 3-year-old filly (Shalaa (Ire) x Confidential Queen {Shamardal {USA}})

The promising Joseph Pride-trained Confidentiality (Shalaa {Ire}) makes her second start at Wyong on Thursday after running a gallant third on debut at Hawkesbury behind Triple Play (Capitalist).

Confidentiality is the fifth foal out of Confidential Queen (Shamardal {Ire}), she only raced three times, but she has made a name for herself as a broodmare leaving four winners with the best of these clearly being the outstanding Private Eye (Al Maher).

Private Eye has been a 14-time winner of just over $12.6 million, he has been successful in the G1 Epsom Handicap, four other Group 2 races and another three Group 3 races. He has also ran second and third in The Everest.

Confidential Queen in recent times has left an Anamoe yearling filly, and is due to foal again to Anamoe late this month.

Confidentiality was passed in short of her $500,000 reserve at the 2024 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
