Sayedaty Sadaty has Cup dreams

The G3 Bendigo Cup went to Ciaron Maher-trained imported gelding Sayedaty Sadaty (Ire) (Anodin {Ire}) and the team hope he will carry on to the big cup. He is currently 35th in the order for the G1 Melbourne Cup on Tuesday.

"Fantastic. I'm just rapt, the team have done a super job with this horse,” Maher said of the one length victory over John O'Shea & Tom Charlton-trained Quietness (GB) (Bated Breath {GB}) and Arthur Pace-trained Raging Bull (Bull Point).

“He's lost his way a little bit, and as I said pre-race, we've got a good record with those stayers when you freshen them up (with) a good distance between runs. It was a beautiful ride then. Harry just seems to get it right on those stayers. The Archer run was very good and then that next one, it just didn't suit him that race shape at all when the other horse took off and it can bottom a horse when they're in a race like that but that's why I'm just rapt for the team.”

Sayedaty Sadaty was 12th in the G3 Bart Cummings last start, but third in G3 Archer prior to that. He also won a couple of city races this campaign during the winter, and has been up since June 2025.

“The horse is very deep into the preparation, he's run super and we'll see where he fits in Tuesday. We brought him out and we ran in a Caulfield Cup, that didn't sort of work out straight off the plane."

“It gives me great satisfaction and the Bendigo Cup, what a cracking day, there's a heap of people here and we always target well and the horses have run well (in the Melbourne Cup) that have run well in this race…High Emocean, Interpretation. Hopefully, this horse is another one. We'll just tick him over now and hopefully he gets a spot.”

Sayedaty Sadaty has won four of his 19 starts and over $740,000.

Sale info: A €30,000 (AU$52,800) Baden-Baden yearling, Sayedaty Sadaty was a private sale into Australia.

Pedigree notes: Sayedaty Sadaty is out of Galileo (Ire) mare Bell Su River (GB) who won four races in France from 2300 metres to 2800 metres. She has produced six winners and Sayedaty Sadaty becomes her first stakes winner, having been previously four times stakes placed. Bell Su River’s second dam is triple Group 1 winner Champion Turf Female in the USA, Hatoof (USA) (Irish River {Fr}).

His sire, Anodin (Ire), is a son of Anabaa (USA) who moves to ten stakes winners with Sayedaty Sadaty's first stakes win, led by G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest winner King Gold (Fr).

An aggressive sweetheart, Hey Jessie makes it two

At Bendigo, Dom Sutton-trained 3-year-old filly Hey Jessie (Too Darn Hot {GB}) added her second career victory with a half-length victory over 1300 metres. She had previously won at Caulfield as a 2-year-old.

“We're really happy with this little girl, she's such a sweetheart. She's always been a bit aggressive this filly, but we tried everything to calm her down. I think first time at that distance today worked really for her and we're pretty happy to have a winner on Cup Day,” said stable representative Camille Piantoni.

“In the morning we try to be as soft as we can with her, just to make her happy - do what she likes - and then today with a bit of her change in her gear with a different bit. We also liked to have a bit of cover and have her as relaxed as we can. She loved it today.”

A winner at two at her second start, this campaign has been mixed with a fourth first up, followed by a seventh last start. She is owned by Seymour Bloodstock and partners.

Sales info: Hey Jessie was sold by Twin Hills Stud at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale for $120,000 to Seymour Bloodstock.

Pedigree notes: By boom sire Too Darn Hot (GB), Hey Jessie is the second live foal and second winner for Stomp (Congrats {USA}) who was a winner. Stomp has 2-year-old gelding Stomping Ground (Astern) and a produced a filly by Royal Meeting (Ire) this spring.

Stomp is a half-sister to G3 Red Roses Stakes winner Flying Evelyn (Not A Single Doubt) and her second dam is Group 1 winner Bollinger (Dehere {USA}), the dam of G2 Louisiana Derby winner Freisan Fire (USA) (AP Indy {USA}) and G2 Sandown Guineas winner Villermont (All Too Hard).

Long Legs pulls clear at Rosehill

Sydney received nearly 20 mm of rain on Wednesday to make things sodden at Rosehill, but Gary Portelli-trained 3-year-old filly Long Legs (Russian Revolution) put her name to good use when putting two lengths on the rest of the field in the first. The filly will be set for bigger targets despite having to deal with unsuitable soggy conditions.

“You thought this is going to be probably a gap job here, but she did get a little bit tired late,” said Portelli.

“She's a very promising horse, and we're really thankful for BK Racing giving us the opportunity. I've been chasing Benny Vassallo for a long time to get one, and he's given me a good one straight up. So thanks very much to the team at BK Racing. Let's hope there's more to come.”

She had two starts at two for a second and fourth, and was resuming at three here. “Yes, she'd already handled it last preparation, so she'd had that under her.

“But she runs pretty steady time in there, 1:27, I think. So, it's pretty wet. You'd have to think after the back of just two trials in a heavy track, 1400 metres, she'd get a bit tired late. But I'm looking forward to seeing where she ends up this filly. I think she can get black type and race her up.”

The official time was 1:26.92 for the 1400 metre trip.

Sale info: Long Legs was sold by Davali Thoroughbreds at the Inglis Sydney Weanling Sale for $180,000 to Coventry Bloodstock. She was pinhooked through Maluka Thoroughbreds’ Inglis Premier Yearling Sale draft for $250,000 to B K Racing and Breeding.

Pedigree notes: She is the second winner from four to race for Fabvier (Fastnet Rock) who doesn’t have a foal in 2025 having missed to Tiger Of Malay. Fabvier won three races and is a half-sister to G3 Ottawa Stakes winner Bella Rossa (Snitzel), out of Listed Mode Stakes winner Swiss Rose (NZ) (Thorn Park).

Another day, another debut winner for Godolphin

Lindsay Park was sent 3-year-old colt Cavern (Brazen Beau) by Godolphin in their restructure and the youngster made his race day debut at Bendigo for the Hayes brothers to salute by 1.5 lengths in the first.

“(One) thousand metres, first use of the track and he did everything right. He was slowly away, but once he found the lead, it was pretty easy. The favourite was held up, but it's great to get a winner on a big day for Godolphin. He's a lovely horse and he's done everything right in the jumpouts. It's great to see him get the win today,” said stable representative Will Evans.

“When he first came to us he was a bit colty and up and about, but he's just settled in. He paraded perfect today, he was excellent to saddle out the back, and it's great to see. He's a very quick horse.”

The stable has done with the stock of Brazen Beau with the likes of Bold Bastille.

“He paraded perfect today, he was excellent to saddle out the back, and it's great to see. He's a very quick horse.” - Will Evans

“We just told him to be in the first four, so there looked a bit of pressure in this race and obviously he was the debutant. Ideally, we probably wanted to follow something, but he bounced right there and he was very professional."

Sale info: A homebred for Godolphin.

Pedigree notes: Cavern is a half-brother to three stakes winners – G2 Arrowfield 3YO Sprint winner Aft Cabin (Astern), G3 PJ Bell Stakes winner Multaja (Medaglia D’Oro {USA}) and Listed Lonhro Plate winner Veranillo (Medaglia D’Oro {USA}).

Their dam, three-time winner Shelters (Lonhro) is a full sister to G1 TJ Smith Stakes winner and sire Benfica.
