Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
Runners by Satono Aladdin (Jpn) and Super Seth are chasing success across Australia on Sunday.

The promising gelding is out of Nancy Spain (NZ) (Charm Spirit {NZ}), who was a winner over 1100 metres. His grandam Lucia Bella (Fastnet Rock) was a winner over 1200 metres and is very well-related, being a full sister to the G1 Goodwood Handicap winner Lone Rock (Fastnet Rock).
Nancy Spain, in recent years has left a Tagaloa yearling filly, and foaled an In The Congo colt in October.
Vega Sicilia was purchased by Richard and Will Freedman Stables from the Blue Gum Farm draft for $60,000 from the 2024 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.
Hawkesbury, Race 1, 1.35pm AEDT, Merry Christmas Class 1 Handicap, $42,000, 1400m
So Long Farewell (NZ), 4-year-old gelding (Super Seth x Sound Of Music (NZ) {O’Reilly {NZ}})
The well-related So Long Farewell (NZ) (Super Seth) is set to chase his second win at start number six at Hawkesbury on Sunday over 1400 metres for trainer Ciaron Maher.
His form is pretty solid; he finished his 3-year-old season with a win over a mile at Kembla Grange in June and resumed with a lovely second at Wyong late last month.
Super Seth | Standing at Waikato Stud
So Long Farewell is a son of Waikato Stud’s exciting Super Seth and is out of the O’Reilly (NZ) mare Sound Of Music (NZ), who only raced twice on the track.
She has an excellent pedigree and some of the stakes winners that feature include Do Ra Mi (NZ) (Savabeel), Unique Jewellery (NZ) (O’Reilly {NZ}), Marju Snip (NZ) (Marju {Ire}), and Candide (NZ) (Sound Reason {Can}).
So Long Farewell was withdrawn from the 2023 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Ready To Run Sale.
