Looking Ahead - January 28

Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Two 3-year-old runners by Extreme Choice go head-to-head at Kembla Grange, while a beautifully-bred Wootton Bassett (GB) gelding looks hard to beat at Eagle Farm.

Juvenal, 3-year-old gelding (Extreme Choice x Serious Satire {More Than Ready {USA}})

The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr-trained Juvenal (Extreme Choice) will make his debut at Kembla Grange on Wednesday over 1000 metres.

He has looked good at the trials, placing second in three of his five trials, so he is well-educated ahead of his debut.

Juvenal is out of the Group 3 winner Serious Satire (More Than Ready {USA}), who has already left the four-time winner Russian Satire (Russian Revolution).

There are many talented stakes winners that appear in this pedigree including I Am Unstoppable, Satin Slipper (Pierro), Star Satire (NZ) (Volksraad {GB}), and Zarzuela (NZ) (Zabeel {NZ}).

In recent times, Serious Satire has left a yearling colt by Farnan, a filly foal by Ole Kirk, and was served by Ole Kirk again last spring.

Juvenal was purchased at the 2024 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale by MG Price Racing & Breeding, TFI,D Farrington and Stallion Match for $340,000.

Extraglow, 3-year-old filly (Extreme Choice x Skylight Glow {Northern Meteor})

The Bjorn Baker-trained Extraglow (Extreme Choice) makes her second start at Kembla Grange on Wednesday over 1000 metres, she ran a very good third on debut at Gosford earlier this month and with natural improvement looks hard to beat.

Extraglow is out of the two-time winning Northern Meteor mare Skylight Glow, who also placed in the G2 Tea Rose Stakes, G3 Ming Dynasty Handicap and the G1 Flight Stakes. She has done a tidy job at stud, having left three winners.

Skylight Glow, since producing Extraglow, has left a 2-year-old colt by Extreme Choice named Sunstorm, and a yearling colt by Extreme Choice before she sadly died early in 2025.

Extraglow was purchased by Bjorn Baker Racing and Jim Clarke Bloodstock (FBAA) for $200,000 at the 2024 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

Tacitly, 3-year-old gelding (Wootton Bassett (GB) x Silently {Anabaa {USA}})

The Annabel and Rob Archibald-trained Tactily (Wootton Bassett (GB) lines up at Eagle Farm on Wednesday, chasing his maiden victory over 1840 metres.

He has run three very honest races in his career so far and he looks very hard to beat in this race stepping up in distance.

Tacitly’s dam Silently (Anabaa {USA}) was a Listed winner on the track, and has gone on to leave seven winners including the South African Group 3 winner Muwaary (O’Reilly {NZ}).

Silently is also very well-related being a half-sister to the Group 1 winners Criterion and Bull Point (Fastnet Rock).

Silently, in recent years has produced a yearling colt by Tiger Of Malay, and was served again by the young stallion last spring.

William Johnson Bloodstock (FBAA) purchased Tacitly for $60,000 from the 2024 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale from the draft of Yarraman Park Stud.
