Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
Two runners by Toronado (Ire) and Pierata chase maiden success across Australia on Sunday.

Silvasista, 3-year-old filly (Toronado (Ire) x Silver Tiara {Ferocity})
The well-related Silvasista (Toronado {Ire}) will be making her third start at Wangaratta on Sunday for trainers Tony and Calvin McEvoy. She ran a solid third on debut at Swan Hill last June, before she disappointed at her next start and was then sent for a break.
She has had three jump-outs this time in, so should have plenty of fitness under her belt, and looks a good value each-way chance.
Toronado (Ire) | Standing at Swettenham Stud
Silvasista is the seventh foal from the Ferocity mare Silver Tiara, who only raced twice but has proven to be a smart broodmare leaving three winners. The best of these has been Silvera (High Chaparral {Ire}) who was a 10-time winner from 1400 metres to 2000 metres, his best success came in the Listed Tattersall’s Mile Handicap, Listed Member’s Cup and the Listed Morphettville Guineas.
Silver Tiara is also well-related being a half-sister to Shoot Out (High Chaparral {Ire}) who was a 10-time winner including in the G1 Australian Derby and another four Group 1 races.
She is also a half-sister to the Group 3 winners I’m A Princess (High Chaparral {Ire}) and Cassandra Shadow (NZ) (Johannesburg {USA}).
Unfortunately Silver Tiara has not had much luck since producing Silvasista, missing several times.
Sunshine Coast, Race 1, 1.20pm AEDT (12.20pm local), Halcol Energy Solar & Batteries QTIS 2YO Maiden Handicap, $30,000, 1200m
Nation, 2-year-old colt (Pierata x White House Girl {Winning Rupert})
The Tony and Maddysen Sears-trained Nation (Pierata) makes his debut at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday over 1200 metres. He has shown good ability at the trials running second in both of them and a forward showing would not surprise.
Nation is the first foal out of White House Girl (Winning Rupert) who was a winner over 1600 metres. She is out of Claudia Jean (Not A Single Doubt) who was a winner as a 2-year-old and also placed in the Listed VRC Festival of Racing Stakes.
Pierata | Standing at Yulong Stud
As a broodmare she has left five foals to race and all of them have been winners.
Nation’s fourth dam was the outstanding mare Miltak (NZ) (McGinty {NZ}), she was an eight-time winner and her wins included the G1 New Zealand Oaks, G1 Auckland Cup and the G1 BMW Stakes.
White House Girl, in recent times has produced a Wild Ruler yearling colt, and was served by Star Turn last spring.
Nation was purchased for $65,000 by Cross Park Stud from the 2024 Inglis Sydney Weanling Sale. He was then re-sold at the 2025 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, where R S Bloodstock purchased him for $75,000.
Looking Back:
Defensemen (Wootton Bassett {GB}) - Disappointed when well beaten at the tail of the field.
Eurocanto (Per Incanto {USA}) - Sixth of eight, but well beaten by over seven lengths. Needs to improve.
Extraglow (Extreme Choice) - Was unfortunately scratched, she will keep for another day.
