Looking Ahead - February 15

Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Two Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young-trained Savabeel 3-year-old geldings chase maiden success at Stony Creek on Sunday.

Snobbery (NZ), 3-year-old gelding (Savabeel x Hoity Toity (NZ) {Makfi {GB}})

The Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young-trained Snobbery (NZ) (Savabeel) makes his second start at Stony Creek on Sunday over 1600 metres. He disappointed on debut when running seventh at Moe, but looks the type that will improve with racing.

Snobbery has a very strong pedigree, he is out of the Makfi (GB) mare Hoity Toity (NZ), who is a full sister to Eleonora (NZ) (Makfi {GB}) who was a dual Group 3 winner on both sides of the Tasman, she then went on to produce the Listed winning juvenile Ethereal Star (Snitzel). Also a half-sibling to Hoity Toity is the dual Group 2 winner and Group 3 winner Supera (NZ) (High Chaparral {Ire}).

This is also the family of the Champion staying mare Ethereal (NZ) (Rhythm {NZ}) who won the G1 Melbourne Cup, G1 Caulfield Cup, G1 BMW Stakes and the G1 Queensland Oaks.

In recent years, Hoity Toity has left a 2-year-old colt by Savabeel, a yearling colt by Savabeel, a filly foal by Savabeel and was served by Super Seth last spring.

Snobbery was purchased for NZ$130,000 by Busuttin Young Racing at the 2024 New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale.

Ateyate (NZ), 3-year-old gelding (Savabeel x Special Light {Redoute’s Choice})

The Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young-trained Ateyate (NZ) (Savabeel) steps up over 2100 metres at Stony Creek on Sunday. He was a solid fifth on debut over 1600 metres at Werribee earlier this month where he was finishing off strongly, so the step up in distance suits off that and on breeding.

Ateyate is out of the three-time winner Special Light (Redoute’s Choice) who won at 2100 metres and 2200 metres. This is the family of the three-time Group 1 winner Special Harmony (Spinning World {USA}) who won the G1 Victorian Oaks over 2500 metres.

Another high profile winner in the family is Fangirl (Sebring), she has been a four-time Group 1 winner in her career so far and has won just over $10.8 million in prizemoney.

Since producing Ateyate, Special Light has produced a 2-year-old filly named Jenni Cherri (NZ) (Almanzor {Fr}), a yearling colt by Proisir, and was due to foal to Chaldean (GB) last spring.

Ateyate was purchased by Busuttin Young Racing for NZ$150,000 at the 2024 New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale.

Looking Back:

Avengers (Snitzel) - Was scratched from his race at Randwick, he will keep for another day.

Jourama (Frosted {USA}) - Ran a solid second on debut at Newcastle.
