Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Two promising 3-year-old fillies by Tassort and Banquo go head-to-head at Werribee on Tuesday afternoon.

Sealand, 3-year-old filly (Tassort x Hams Al Lail {Dream Ahead {USA}})

The Lloyd Kennewell-trained Sealand (Tassort) looks very hard to beat at her second start at Werribee on Tuesday. She ran a solid second on debut at Pakenham late last month, and in the hands of Zac Spain looks very well placed.

Sealand is the first foal out of the winning mare Hams Al Lail (Dream Ahead {USA}). She has some beautiful pedigree influences through her damsires including Pivotal (GB), Storm Cat (USA), and Private Account (USA).

This is the extended family of the Group 1-winning fillies Alpha Centauri (Ire) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}) and Alpine Star (Ire) (Sea The Moon {Ger}), and the Japanese Group 1 winner and Champion Sprinter Lugal (Jpn) (Duramente {Jpn}).

Hams Al Lail, in recent times has left a 2-year-old gelding named Ashkirk (Ole Kirk), a yearling colt by Ole Kirk, and missed to Generation the next season.

Sealand was purchased by Kenneth J Hodgson for $32,500 via the 2023 Inglis Digital November Sale.

Lovesexy (NZ), 3-year-old filly (Banquo x Grand Slam (NZ) {Pins})

The Danny O’Brien-trained and Mark Chittick-owned filly Lovesexy (NZ) (Banquo) makes her debut at Werribee on Tuesday. She has had plenty of jump-out and trial experience, and Lachlan Neindorf takes the reins for her debut.

Lovesexy is by Banquo, who sired his first stakes winner when Justin Case (NZ) won the G3 Matamata Slipper on Saturday, in the same Waikato Stud colours that Lovesexy will be wearing.

She is out of the classy Glam Slam (NZ) (Pins) who was a three-time winner including at Listed level at Flemington, and who has gone on to leave six foals to race for six winners.

Lovesexy comes from a deep family with the classy Group 1 winners such as Espiona (Extreme Choice), Glamour Puss (NZ) (Tale Of The Cat {USA}) and Vision And Power (NZ) (Carnegie {Ire}), and Dom To Shoot (Shooting To Win) all featuring.

Glam Slam, since producing Lovesexy, has left a 2-year-old filly by Ocean Park (NZ), and has unfortunately missed the next two breeding seasons.

Snobbery (NZ) (Savabeel) - Ran a fast-finishing third at Stony Creek, a win is getting close for this gelding.

Ateyate (NZ) (Savabeel) - Was beaten a long way in second, but it was a brave effort at his first go over ground, so improvement is likely.
