Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Two exciting runners by Capitalist and Farnan are chasing maiden success at Cranbourne and Canterbury on Friday night.

Southside Cranbourne, Race 3, 7.15pm AEDT, ACW Facility Services 2YO Handicap, $40,000, 1000m

Flash Of Class, 2-year-old filly (Capitalist x Flashing Speed {War Pass {USA}})

The Mark Walker-trained Flash Of Class (Capitalist) makes her second start at Cranbourne on Friday night.

She ran a solid sixth in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes behind Eurocanto (Per Incanto {USA}) last October. Since then she has had a break and prepared for her resuming run with two jump-outs at Cranbourne where she has shown plenty.

Flash Of Class is out of Flashing Speed (War Pass {USA}) who was a dual-winner and Group 3-placed on the track. She is also a half-sister to the Australian Group 2 winner and Hong Kong Listed winner Thunder Fantasy (Lucky Owners), and the Listed-placed Eclair Calling (Tartan Bearer {Ire}).

Flashing Speed, in recent times, has produced a yearling colt by State Of Rest (Ire), a filly foal by State Of Rest and was served by Capitalist last spring.

Flash Of Class was originally purchased by James Harron Bloodstock for $55,000 from the Widden Stud draft at the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Weanling Sale.

She was then re-sold at the 2025 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, where David Ellis (BAFNZ) and Te Akau Racing purchased her again from the Widden Stud draft for $70,000.

Canterbury, Race 1, 6pm AEDT, Drinkwise Maiden Plate, $60,000, 1250m

Farfetched, 3-year-old filly (Farnan x More Than Real (USA) {More Than Ready {USA}})

The very well-bred Farfetched (Farnan) makes her third start at Canterbury on Friday night for trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.

She has run two placings in her only two career starts on the Kensington and at Warwick Farm, and if she gets any luck from her wide draw she looks a very good chance of breaking through.

She has a beautiful pedigree, her dam More Than Real (USA) (More Than Ready {USA}) was a Group 2 and Group 3 winner in America, and ended up being a very good broodmare leaving six winners including the Listed winner Miss Debutante (Fastnet Rock).

The family has gone from strength to strength, as Miss Debutante has left a legacy leaving the G1 Golden Slipper winner Lady Camelot (Written Tycoon), the four-time Group 3 winner Queen Of The Ball (I Am Invincible) and the G3 Gimcrack Stakes winner Platinum Jubilee (Zoustar).

More Than Real, in recent times has produced a Farnan yearling filly, a Zoustar colt foal, and was served by Captivant last spring.

Farfetched was purchased by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, and Kestrel Thoroughbreds for $500,000 from the Kia Ora Stud draft at the 2024 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Looking Back:

Texas (Nicconi) - Ran okay for fourth on debut at Hawkesbury.

Seychelles (NZ) (Proisir) - Smart winner with more to come.

Trapper John (NZ) (Per Incanto {USA}) - Overcame tooth problems en route to the race to win.
