At A Glance
The aggregate increased to $14.74 million, ahead of 2025 ($13.28 million) and 2024 ($14.1 million), and the clearance fell slightly to 82% (85%). 136 horses sold this year compared to 150 in 2025.
The average lifted to $106,793 ($88,557), while the median lifted in 2026 to $80,000 ($70,000).
The top Lot was Lot 25, a filly by Zoustar who was sold by Ridgeport Farm to Sheamus Mills Bloodstock (FBAA) for $525,000. There were 20 lots (11) who sold for $200,000 or more.
Top Buyers: Trevor Andrews who spent $925,000 across seven lots. Pearce Racing and Boomer Bloodstock (FBAA) led the averages at $222,500 for two lots purchased.
Top Vendors: Ridgeport Farm heads the vendors by aggregate, selling nine yearlings for $1.79 million. By average (two or more sold), Mungrup Stud ended on an average of $211,000 for five yearlings.
Top Sire: Playing God lead the stallions by gross with $4 million from 25 lots, while Pinatubo (Ire) topped the averages at $240,000 over two lots. Marine One was the leading first season sire by average achieving $87,500 across his six lots sold.
1. Zoustar filly was ‘Easter’ quality
Sheamus Mills (FBAA) was busy early in the sale, spending $525,000 on Lot 25. She is a Zoustar filly whose 2-year-old half-sister Chayan (I Am Invincible) runs in the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes on Saturday. Chayan ran second to Streisand (Magnus) on debut in the G2 Blue Diamond Prelude (f).
“I went over on Tuesday and came home on Wednesday,” Mills said of the online winning bid.
“She is a midsized Zoustar, which I like, with plenty of length to her. A great attitude about her, very professional, and she’d probably had her ears paraded off given how popular she was.

“I saw her at the very end of the day and she was clearly very tired, three-quarters asleep but when she was asked to parade, she still paraded as well as she had when I first saw at 10 o’clock in the morning. I was just impressed by how she handled the whole thing.”

Lot 25 is by Champion Sire Zoustar out of G3 Tesio Stakes winner Lubiton (Snitzel) giving her the same Redoute’s Choice cross as G1 William Reid Stakes winner and young sire Schwarz, who is out of a Not A Single Doubt mare.
“Zoustar obviously needs no introduction and I thought the sister's effort in the Blue Diamond Prelude was good. The Blue Diamond is a hard race to win, but she obviously has ability as you don’t do that at your first start unless you've got ability.”
Lubiton was purchased by vendor Ridgeport Holdings at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in 2024 for $400,000, carrying Lot 25. Sheamus Mills Bloodstock (FBAA) and Longwood Thoroughbred Farm purchased Lubiton in 2020 for $425,000, so Mills has plenty of familiarity with the mare and the family. Longwood Thoroughbred Farm sold Chayan as a yearling for $250,000 to Eric Koh and Falcon Racing.
“(Lot 25) has Yarraman Park’s brand on her, so I assume was born there and at some stage come over here. I thought that she was probably an Easter standard filly and she stood out for the sale. It’s a fast commercial family and if Chayan wins on Saturday, she can improve the family again. She’s the package that we are trying to collect,” said Mills.
Lubiton’s first three foals are all winners, with Chayan being her fourth foal and Lot 25 her fifth. Lubiton is out of an unraced Zabeel (NZ) daughter of G1 Coolmore Classic winner Camino Rose (Sea Road).
“My plan is to bring her back east, I think that’s the best thing for her. We like to put them through our program in terms of educating and where they spell and what they do and everything.”
2. Andrews tops the buyers chart
Trainer Trevor Andrews went a “little over budget” on Day 1, spending $925,000 on seven yearlings to top the buyer’s chart by aggregate.
“It's certainly more than I've spent in the past, but there were plenty of quality horses in the sale, and you just add up the rent if you wanted to buy a horse. Apparently I've got expensive taste,” said Andrews.
“I missed out on quite a few. The Pinatubo / Wilchino colt (Lot 111), I went to $350,000 on him and got beat, so there were plenty of premium horses I got beat on. Across the board, if you wanted an athlete who vetted well, scoped well, and looked like a racehorse, you had to pay that bit more for them.” Lot 111 sold for $360,000 to Idan Young.

“I have found in the past that you buy those more premium ones, then they sell easier. If you buy the lesser ones, they’re obviously easier to move in time and no pressure, but if you buy premium then people want to be involved. We do a lot of five and 10% shares, smaller shares. Most of my ownerships are all multiple, syndicate type horses.
“I’m certainly happy with what we got and as I say, I missed out on a few that we wanted, but that's the nature of the game.

“There's been lots of nice horses, and I’m happy for the vendors. They've done it tough in the last couple of years, so it’s good that they’ve got a little bit of a resurgence. It gives them a bit of motivation to invest in some better quality mares that we lack here.

“The industry's pretty healthy. We race for good money. Our West Speed bonus scheme is really attractive. And it’s a lot of fun.”
Andrews will be active again on Day 2. “We've got a good dozen or so on the short list for tomorrow.”

3. Hong Kong steps into Perth marketplace
The Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale is traditionally a local marketplace and this remained largely true in 2026. In 2025, 86% of the lots sold on Day 1 stayed in Western Australia, and in 2026, the figures were exactly the same with 117 of 136 (86%) staying local. But a new presence joined the sale in 2026 with four lots purchased by Hong Kong buyers.

“It’s great to have international participation at any sale and for Hong Kong, Perth is a fresh jurisdiction so it was particularly pleasing to see the Hong Kong Jockey Club buying a very good Playing God colt, which is a huge pat on the back for the state and the sale itself,” said Bowditch.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club purchased Lot 147, a colt by Playing God, from Alwyn Park Stud for $260,000. He is the second foal of unraced mare Clear Blue Sky (Sessions), a half-sister to Group 1 winner and young sire Portland Sky.
“Playing God has been on our radar for a while as we believe he has the right profile to succeed in Hong Kong. They love fast ground, have good temperaments, improve with age and win the big races.” said Craig Rounsefell of Boomer Bloodstock buying Lot 147 on behalf of the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
“We thought this colt was ideal for our program. He looks rock solid, has class, is from a fast female line and vetted very clean.”
“Barry Bowditch has been working hard to get us here and we are delighted to make our first purchase in Perth and look forward to presenting this colt at the Hong Kong International Sale in 2028 where we believe he will be very well received.”

Merrick Staunton purchased two lots, colts by Splintex and State Of Rest (Ire), for a combined total of $270,000, while the other Hong Kong buyer was Akaya Success who spent $130,000 on Lot 78, a St Mark’s Basilica (Fr) colt.
“West Australian horses perform pretty well in Hong Kong, considering the small amount of horses that go there. And they don't have to pay the premium cost that they do at the Gold Coast and such,” said trainer Trevor Andrews, who topped the sale by gross as a buyer, and wasn't surprised to see Hong Kong active at the sale.
“They're pretty good value horses, West Australian horses, and they're tough.
“It's a harsh climate here. It's quite hot. We can breed a good tough horses and over the years we’ve produced plenty of good Group 1 sprinters who perform well in Melbourne and Sydney, so there’s no reason why you wouldn’t come here.”

4. Ridgeport Farm’s brilliant day out
Ridgeport Farm was the leading vendor on Day 1, selling nine yearlings for nearly $1.8 million, including the sale topping Zoustar filly. Owner Santos Guagliardo races Group 1 winner Watch Me Rock (Awesome Rock) and the farm now stands Rommel who added two stakes winners last Saturday with his progeny winning both the 2-year-old and 3-year-old Magic Millions Perth races.
“That was an excellent day out. We pinhooked three of those who sold today, and to have the sale topper on top of that is great.” - Santos Guarliardo
“That was an excellent day out. We pinhooked three of those who sold today, and so there was a bit of spending there as weanlings, and to have the sale topper on top of that is great,” said Guagliardo.

“I bought her dam at the Gold Coast and was planning to send the foal back there as a yearling, but Harry (Mitchell) advised me to bring her here. ‘If you go to the Gold Coast, you’ll get a decent price, but if you take her to Perth, you’ll top the sale.’
“She was a great type, a really nice filly and the dam is back in foal to I Am Invincible, and this filly has paid for both the dam and the service to him.”
Ridgeport Farm also sold Lot 169, a Playing God colt, for $300,000 to trainer Neville Parnham, who also purchased a Rommel filly and a Lightsaber filly from this draft.

“This is the best I've ever done. We had some nice local breds like Rommels and I'm really happy with them, and the prices I got for them. It’s been a good sale, there wasn’t many passed in and strong buying.

“Everyone commented on our draft, presented well and good quality breeding. I did plan it a little bit, so have to take some credit, and there are plenty of buyers around.”

5. Bigger top end and spread of buyers
With all key metrics up, Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch was most pleased with the rise in the number of lots making more than $200,000. This metric rose from 11 to 20 in 2026.
“The interesting one is that last year we had 11 lots make $200,000 or more, and this year we had 20. This shows the top of the market was stronger than last year and these lots sold to a good spread of buyers across that level which was great to see,” said Bowditch.
The aggregate for the sale rose to $14.74 million from 2025’s figure of $13.28 million, despite less lots sold (136 compared to 150), thanks to a lift in the average which hit six figures for the first time at $106,793.
“The clearance rate was very encouraging, the gross is up on last year and the average is up almost $20,000. They are great figures. The local buyers are very spirited. This is their Grand Final and it's the big week to buy their new horses and they compete in good spirit here.
“From an interstate and international respect - the spend doubled on last year and that was the difference on gross. Those visitors were very willing to get involved and spend across the board. We are very pleased with today and there's more to look forward to tomorrow - there's a lot of opportunity from 10am in the morning.”
