Pedigree Boosters: Inglis Premier Yearling Sale

4 min read
Ahead of the 2026 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, we have identified four yearlings whose pedigrees have received black-type or metropolitan updates over the past couple of months, potentially increasing their value and certainly enhancing their profile.

The catalogue for the 2026 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale was released in early December 2025. Since that time, a number of yearlings set to pass through the ring at Inglis Oaklands have had their pedigrees enhanced, an important consideration for both vendors and buyers alike.

Lot 158 – Zoustar x Lady Oracle (GB) (Medaglia D’Oro {USA}), filly – on account of Widden Stud

On New Year’s Day, 5-year-old mare Queen Zou (Zoustar) won her first black type race in the G2 Rich Hill Stud Mile, having run second at Group 3 level the start prior. In her most recent start, the Stephen Marsh-trained mare was seen in the G1 Otaki Maori Stakes.

Her full sister steps out on day one of the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in Widden Stud’s draft, which also includes a half-brother to R.Listed Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Unit Five (Supido) as Lot 34.

Queen Zou was a $650,000 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale graduate, sold by Vinery Stud. Her dam Lady Oracle (GB) (Medaglia D’Oro {USA}) further enhanced her progeny record when 3-year-old filly Dance Lady (Exceedance) was a winner at Stawell recently for trainer Simon Zahra.

This is the family of Group 1 winning successful stallion Kementari (NZ) as well as recent stakes winners Silmarillion (Too Darn Hot {GB}) and Lincolnshire (Starspangledbanner).

Lot 183 – All Too Hard x Madam Tracy (Encosta De Lago), colt – on account of Glenn Lee Thoroughbreds

Last Saturday’s G3 Mannerism Stakes winner Bossy Benita (So You Think {NZ}) lifted the catalogue page of Lot 183, as the All Too Hard colt is a half-brother to Bossy Benita’s dam Bossy Woman (Fastnet Rock).

This yearling's dam, Madam Tracy (Encosta De Lago) has produced three winners, as well as the unraced Bossy Woman. She is a 1100 metre winning half-sister to Horse Of The Year Typhoon Tracy (Red Ransom {USA}) who won six Group 1 races.

Seven time Group 1 winner Alligator Blood (All Too Hard) also features up close in this family, making this colt a very close relation to the tough galloper.

Lot 458 – Star Witness x Zouper Star (Zoustar), colt – on account of Newhaven Park Stud

There’s almost no greater upgrade than a G1 Blue Diamond Stakes victory heading into a major sale. Newhaven Park Stud will present Lot 458, a Star Witness half-brother to Saturday’s Group 1 winning filly Streisand (Magnus).

If that isn’t enough, when the catalogue went to print, the dam Zouper Star (Zoustar) had only two runners, stakes placed juvenile Streisand and a 4-year-old gelding named Rich Star (Rich Enuff) who had only a handful of starts under his belt for a couple of placings at Clarence River.

Within three days, everything changed for Zouper Star when Rich Star won his maiden and Streisand became a Group 1 winner.

Zouper Star, who won twice, is a half-sister to Listed winner Best Yet To Come (Econsul) and both are out of stakes placed juvenile winner Simply The Best (NZ) (Kingdom Bay {NZ}).

Lot 571 – Pinatubo (Ire) x Cries And Whiskers (Street Cry {Ire}), filly – on account of Widden Stud

Unraced Street Cry (Ire) mare Cries And Whiskers already had a black type runner on the page when the catalogue went to print with Listed placed 6-year-old gelding Magnatear (Written Tycoon) who ran third in Sydney on Saturday for trainers Richard and Will Freedman. He’s clocked up over $610,000 for his connections.

But it was on Saturday, at the same meeting, that the page got a big boost, and an important one for Lot 571. Joe Pride-trained Weeping Woman (Lonhro) added her second black type win in the G3 Triscay Stakes, having already been a Listed winner in mid-December, just missing the catalogue print deadline. With four wins in succession, two at stakes level, Weeping Woman now has eight wins and earnings over $580,000.

To add to the growing and improving record of Cries And Whiskers, her 4-year-old mare Miss Capitale (Capitalist) added another victory to her earlier maiden win for trainer Matthew Smith.

This is the family of $1.5 million earner Outback Barbie (Spirit Of Boom), her stakes winning daughter Hi Barbie (I Am Invincible), and Outback Barbie's stakes winning full sister Barbie’s Sister.

Any mare with two stakes horses is a very special mare, so this yearling filly has plenty to offer those looking for a racehorse that carries residual value.
