Entries will close soon for the 2026 Inglis Chairman’s Sale, which will take place at the Riverside Stables sales complex on Thursday, May 7. The sale concludes the sales season in Sydney, with the Inglis Great Southern Sale taking place on June 12. Following the successful format of recent years, the 2026 edition will take place late afternoon and into the evening with the theme ‘Where Elegance Meets Excellence’.
New highs achieved in 2025
“Our clients understand now just how special and unique The Chairman’s Sale is,” said Inglis Bloodstock CEO Sebastian Hutch. “Not only as a horse sale, but as an event and as an opportunity to celebrate these amazing mares and in the case of retiring race fillies, give them the showcase that they deserve.

“It is a very enjoyable night that brings together a party atmosphere but also the serious business of acquiring quality stock.”
Last year, the Chairman’s Sale grossed over $54 million and averaged $879,222.
This is an improvement year on year from 2024 and 2023, where the catalogue averaged $598,898 and $554,383 respectively. Clearance rate in 2025 was 87%, the highest rate experienced by the sale since the 2021 sales season.

Fourteen lots at the 2025 sale made $1 million or more, including top-priced G1 The Everest victress Bella Nipotina (Pride Of Dubai) who sold for $4.2 million, and five further lots made $2 million or more.
Recent multi million dollar sales include $3.8 million for Amelia’s Dream (Siyouni {Fr}), $3.6 million for Nimalee (So You Think {NZ}), $3.4 million for Montefilia (Kermadec {NZ}), and $3.4 million for She’s Extreme (Extreme Choice).
Buyers came to the 2025 from all across Australia and New Zealand, as well as Japan, Ireland, and Singapore, in recognition of the high calibre catalogue.

Mares were offered and sold in foal to the country’s leading stallions such as Snitzel, Wootton Bassett (GB), and Zoustar, as well as young, desirable stallions such as nine-time Group 1 winner Anamoe and Champion 2YO Shinzo - who was himself sold in utero at this sale.
“At the end of the day The Inglis Chairman’s Sale is the only broodmare sale in Australia that is growing,” said Hutch. “Since 2021, for example, the Chairman’s Sale gross has doubled.”
Value beyond the sales ring
Mares sold at the Chairman’s Sale have in turn produced top tier results in the ring and on the track for their new owners.
To name but a few; 2021 graduate Pippie’s (Written Tycoon) I Am Invincible filly realised $1.8 million at last year’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale to the bid of Champions Farm and Satomi Oka Bloodstock (FBAA), and Paredo (Better Than Ready) was sold in 2023 carrying R. Listed Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic winner Paradoxium (Extreme Choice) in utero.
In 2022, Shout The Bar (Not A Single Doubt) was a $2.7 million purchase for Tom Magnier, and in 2025 she realised $3 million for her first foal, a Home Affairs colt, at Inglis Easter when sold to Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott and Kestrel Thoroughbreds.

“The work that goes into promoting the sale and in particular, the presentation of the catalogue, is a world-wide industry standard,” Hutch said. “The level of detail is unparalleled, and this has been a big factor in us not only growing the sale but also delivering incredible results for vendors."
"There is a real opportunity for owners of quality two, three and 4-year-old race fillies and mares to capitalise on an incredibly lucrative market at The Chairman’s Sale." - Sebastian Hutch
Hutch adds a reminder that the sale is also a great opportunity to trade racing stock, as well as broodmares and fillies at the end of their racing career.
“At this stage, there doesn’t look like being the depth of quality offered to the market as in previous years amongst the retiring mares," he said.
“But we know the demand is there, so there is a real opportunity for owners of quality two, three and 4-year-old race fillies and mares to capitalise on an incredibly lucrative market at The Chairman’s Sale.”
