Maher buys back untapped Zousain gelding
Ciaron Maher Racing offered and repurchased Lot 78, 3-year-old Zousain gelding Holding Captive, in this week’s Inglis Digital March Early Online Sale for $310,000. Purchased from Sledmere Stud’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $280,000 by Ciaron Maher Bloodstock and David Redvers Bloodstock, the gelding was a trial winner at Caulfield Heath last month for a syndicate that included Rosemont Stud, Widden Stud, Woodside Bloodstock, and McDonnell Thoroughbreds.

The gelding is a half to six winners, including Listed Cinderella Stakes-placed Bribery (Spirit Of Boom). Dam Hold For Ransom (Oratorio {Ire}) is a half-sister to G3 Vo Rogue Plate winner Benny’s Buttons (Refuse To Bend) and R. Listed Magic Millions Gold Coast 2YO Classic victress Real Surreal (Real Saga), who sold for $800,000 as a broodmare at the conclusion of her racing career.
"Basically a few owners wanted to cash out of him, which is fine, but Ciaron still has great belief in the horse so to appease everyone, he was put online on Inglis Digital and this is the fairest outcome possible,’’ said Maher’s Head of Bloodstock Will Bourne.

“He’s won a trial nicely and he’ll head to the races next Wednesday, and he’s a horse we have a really good opinion of.’’
Maher also offered Lot 24, fellow 3-year-old gelding The Real Mahjong (Universal Ruler), who was bought by Wan Bloodstock for $115,000 and will subsequently head to Hong Kong. An unbeaten winner of his first two starts, The Real Mahjong is out of an unraced full sister to Western Australian stakes winners Impact Rating (Blackfriars) and Full Reign, plus Group-performed Black In Time.

"He’s two from two and the ownership group decided to capitalise on that record and sell him," said Bourne. “They bought another horse at Inglis Premier last week and we wish the new owners all the best with him.’’

“We’ve fielded plenty of calls from prospective buyers and trainers, and I think Inglis Digital provides a viable and honest way of trading. We’re traders at heart and she’s a perfect example of that.’’
Oregon Coast was originally a $10,000 Inglis Australian Weanling Sale purchase for McGrath from Cannon Hayes Stud. Oregon Coast has been nominated for the G2 Percy Sykes Stakes.
Shares in promising 3-year-olds in high demand
Of the shares on offer in this week’s Inglis Digital sale, it was the 3-year-olds who attracted the most interest. A 5% share in Satirically (Snitzel), a colt trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott and running in the Kia Ora Stud colours, was offered as Lot 155 and sold to Pure Bred Thoroughbred Breeding and Racing for $17,000, valuing him at $340,000 in total. A winner at his first start at Warwick Farm in February, he is the first runner for multiple Group winner Paradee (Epaulette).

Another runner in the Kia Ora colours was Lot 172, Zoufield (Zoustar). His 5% share was also sold to Pure Bred Thoroughbred Breeding and Racing, who paid $14,000 - equating to a total value of $280,000. Zoufield ran at Warwick Farm on Wednesday afternoon, and finished in the rear half of the field.
Two 5% shares, Lots 147 and 148, were offered in Prague 3-year-old Loud Charlie, a dual metropolitan winner in Victoria for Lloyd Kennewell who ran in the G3 CS Hayes Stakes. He is a half-brother to Listed Dequetteville Stakes-placed All Woke (All Too Hard). One share sold to S Triplett for $13,000 and the other to L Turner for $10,000, equating to a value of $230,000 for the gelding.
