Carriedo delivers in dominant fashion
The Grahame Begg-trained Carriedo (Lope De Vega {Ire}) delivered a dominant display at Sandown, putting her fellow 3-year-old fillies to the sword in Benchmark 64 company.
A maiden winner at Geelong on March 14 over 1312 metres, she backed that up in emphatic fashion, scoring by just under five lengths.
The well-bred Yulong-owned Frankel (GB) filly Jewel Of Heaven set the tempo, with Venetian Choice (Castelvecchio) racing keenly to her outside. Jordan Childs had Carriedo perfectly positioned in the trail, travelling strongly throughout.
At the 300-metre mark, Childs asked for an effort - and the response was immediate. Carriedo surged clear to defeat Tallingas Indirose (Reward For Effort), while Jewel Of Heaven held on for third ahead of Justique (Justify {USA}), who worked home well from last.
“It was great, it was a really good watch and that’s how we mapped it,” Begg’s racing manager, Rohan Hughes, told Racing.com.
“She’s a good beginner, very professional.
“She’s got a very good turn of foot, she’s always shown that in trackwork and trials.

“It looked a really nice race for her today.”
Hughes indicated the filly may be allowed to work through her grades, though the style of the win could prompt loftier ambitions.
“Probably the latter is more Grahame Begg style. But when you win like that you’ve probably got to consider all of your options.
“Whether she’s ready for a trip away, Grahame’s probably got to work that out. I think he just likes to develop them in the right way, early doors, and get them to become believers and winners. If they’re good enough, they’re going to get a stakes opportunity ultimately in any case,” Hughes explained.

Jockey Jordan Childs was equally taken with the performance.
“I was very impressed with the way, when I let her go, she really quickened and extended to the line,” he said.
“She’s been putting the writing on the wall and now she’s put two together in a row and she should go on with it.”
He also suggested more ground will suit in time.
“Yeah, I think so,” Childs said.
“She seems like a nice horse and she just does everything right; she comes back and relaxes for you, which will hold her in good stead for when she does get over further and she’s also got an electric turn of foot.
“I think she’s got a bright future.”

Blitzgal lives up to her name on debut
Blitzgal (Churchill {Ire}) produced one of the most impressive performances of Easter Monday at Rosehill, with the Chris Waller-trained debutant justifying strong market support in style.
Sent out a warm favourite, the filly enjoyed a perfect run under Zac Lloyd before powering clear to score by just over three and a half lengths.
In A Tizzy (Zoustar), trained by Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr, began sharply from gate one and set a solid tempo, with Last Apache (Fr) (Fastnet Rock) outside the leader. Blitzgal tracked the speed comfortably in the trail.

Turning for home, In A Tizzy kicked strongly, but Lloyd eased Blitzgal off heels and the race was quickly put beyond doubt. The filly surged clear, with In A Tizzy holding second, Aida (Cool Aza Beel {NZ}) third, and Eynesbury (NZ) (Savabeel) although beaten a long way in fourth, was an honest effort after having to loop the field from last in an on-pace dominated contest.
“It was a very good display on debut,” trainer Chris Waller said.

“She still did a few things wrong and was wayward in the straight.
“She was a little bit keen and wobbled when Zac (Lloyd, jockey) asked to come off heels and accelerate.”

Compensation delivers for Bjorn Baker
Bjorn Baker’s strong run of form continued at Rosehill on Easter Monday, with Compensation (Written Tycoon) breaking through for a deserved victory in the opener.
The well-bred gelding improved sharply on his debut third behind Castlejohn (Castelvecchio) at Warwick Farm, scoring second-up under Rachel King.
A solid tempo was set early by Mrs Maree (Written Tycoon), with King applying pressure aboard Compensation outside the leader. Loera (Capitalist), out of Golden Slipper winner Overreach (Exceed And Excel), enjoyed a trailing run in the one-one.
Upon straightening, Compensation moved up at the 300-metre mark and let down strongly. Loera gave chase but fell just over a length short, while I Am Adonis (I Am Invincible) filled third for Team Hawkes.

Pedigree info: Compensation is one of two winners out of the Snitzel mare Gretna (Snitzel), she was a three-time winner up to 1400 metres. She comes from a strong family being a half-sister to the classy Snogging (I Am Invincible) who was Group 2 and Listed-placed, and a three-quarter-sister to Snogging’s daughter Pure Passion (Snitzel), who has been a stakes performer.
This is also the family of the G2 Angus Armanasco Stakes winner Lavish Girl (Xtravagant).
Gretna, in recent times, has left a 2-year-old gelding named Inkwell (Written By), a yearling filly by Pierata, a weanling colt by Rommel, and also was served again by Rommel last spring.
Satirically surges to Sandown success
Satirically (Snitzel) continued his upward trajectory with an impressive victory at Sandown, giving trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott further reason for optimism.
A debut winner at Warwick Farm in February, the 3-year-old had since placed behind Crossbow (Better Than Ready) on the Kensington track before heading to Melbourne, where he proved too strong in Benchmark 66 grade at this first start in the state.
Ridden by Jordan Childs, Satirically worked forward from a wide draw in measured fashion, gradually finding the lead rather than expending early energy. Once in front, he travelled smoothly before kicking clear in the straight to score by just under three lengths - a margin that appeared to be getting bigger and bigger.
Cinturato (Shamus Award), trained by Mark Walker, made a strong inside run but peaked late to hold second, while Vim Vitae (The Autumn Sun) ran on well for third.
Sales info: Satirically was purchased for $800,000 by Kia Ora, TFI, Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, and Kestrel Thoroughbreds from the Widden Stud draft at the 2024 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Pedigree info: Bred by Robert Anderson and raised for him by Widden Stud, Satirically is the first foal of the well-performed Epaulette mare Paradee. She was a six-time winner on the track, capturing the G2 Peter Young Stakes and the G3 Alexandra Stakes, and she also ran fourth in the G1 Australian Cup.
This is also the extended family of the Listed Breeders’ Plate winner Law (Denman) and his dam Lady Cat (Chi) (Sir Cat {USA}), who was a Group 3 winner in Peru.
Paradee, in recent times, has produced a Snitzel yearling filly, a Zoustar colt foal, and was subsequently served by Broadsiding last spring.
