Looking Ahead - April 7

Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Two promising 3-year-olds by Supido and Castelvecchio are chasing maiden success at Grafton on Tuesday.

Cerano Magic, 3-year-old gelding (Supido x Malea Magic {Arlington})

The Karen Owen-trained Cerano Magic (Supido) chases maiden success at start number two at Grafton on Tuesday over 1005 metres.

He ran a solid third on debut at Port Macquarie over 1000 metres and looks well-placed in this race.

Cerano Magic is out of the five-time winner Malea Magic (Arlington), who was successful at Highway level at Randwick and was placed at metropolitan several times. She has already left the two-time winner Calido Magic, also by Supido.

There are plenty of strong pedigree influences throughout the pedigree, her damsire Arlington is a Red Ransom (USA) half-brother to the Champion stallion Savabeel, and also through the dam line are strong colonial speed influences such as Luskin Star, Magic Albert and Zeditave.

Malea Magic, in recent times, has left a yearling filly by Graff, and has not been served since.

Amazigh Torque, 3-year-old filly (Castelvecchio x Moroccan Rose {Charge Forward})

The Matthew Dunn-trained 3-year-old filly Amazigh Torque (Castelvecchio) lines up for her second start at Grafton on Tuesday. She ran a very good third on the same track on March 15 behind Lord Of Flames (Dracarys).

Amazigh Torque is out of the Listed-placed Charge Forward mare Moroccan Rose. She has already left three winners including the eight-time winner and Listed-placed Kavak (Deep Field). She is also well-related being a half-sister to Hit The Shot (Dundeel {NZ}) who won twice, but showed his class as he was placed in the G1 Victorian Derby and the G3 Caulfield Classic.

With Castelvecchio being a son of Dundeel (NZ), Amazigh Torque is very closely related to this talented stayer.

This is also the extended family of the smart 2-year-old Military Rose (General Nediym) and last Saturday’s very impressive G1 Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Campione D’Italia (Snitzel).

Moroccan Rose, in recent times, has left a yearling colt by Ole Kirk, and a weanling filly by Maurice (Jpn).

Amazigh Torque was purchased for $100,000 from the Longwood Thoroughbred Farm draft by Matthew Dunn and Neil Jenkinson (FBAA) at the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
