As the curtain falls on a phenomenal autumn for the Godolphin racing operation, the team announces that dual Group 1-winning 3-year-olds Tentyris and Observer will join the Darley roster in 2026.

The obvious choice

A son of Street Boss (USA), Tentyris will stand his debut season at stud for $88,000 inc GST.

The winner of five races from 10 starts, Tentyris kicked off his career with a victory in the Listed Talindert Stakes at his second start, before running second by a head to Devil Night (Extreme Choice) in the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes. He added a classy victory in the G2 Todman Stakes next, beating Wodeton (Wootton Bassett {GB}) and subsequent G1 Champagne Stakes winner Nepotism in the process.

A minor injury saw the colt miss the G1 Golden Slipper Stakes, but he returned just as strongly in the spring, now in the hands of Anthony and Sam Freedman, with a third in the G2 Danehill Stakes. He smartly won the Listed Gothic Stakes next, beating subsequent dual Group 1 winner Sheza Alibi (Saxon Warrior {Jpn}), and then stepped out for the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes.

Flemington’s 1200 metres is where Tentyris has really shone, and he motored home from 11th at the 400-metre mark to beat multiple Group 1 performer My Gladiola (I Am Invincible) by two and a quarter lengths.

“It was a difficult decision for the racing team to retire a horse that's obviously so talented,” said Darley’s Head of Stallions Alastair Pulford. “He’s completely sound and is just a wonderful racehorse. But from the stallion business point of view, he was so obvious (to retire to stud).

“He’s a winner of the Coolmore Stud Stakes, which has been a stallion-defining race for 3-year-olds that has been won by the likes of Zoustar, Northern Meteor, our own Brazen Beau, and Home Affairs.

“Since the race moved to its current position in the Melbourne spring carnival, every stallion with runners to win the race has sired at least one Group 1 winner aside from one, and he is going to achieve that as well.

“There are some outstanding stallions on the honour roll of that race. It’s a no-fail race for a stallion prospect.”

In the autumn, Tentyris resumed in the G1 Lightning Stakes where he was again an emphatic winner, becoming the fourth 3-year-old colt to win the weight-for-age race since the turn of the century.

“To do it again against the older horses is very special,” Pulford said. “The stallions that win that race - Home Affairs, Fastnet Rock, Testa Rossa, General Nediym - they become very good stallions. If you are a 3-year-old colt who wins that race, you pretty much set the seal on your stud career. It is a proper race to win.”

Tentyris is one of four offspring of Street Boss to win a Group 1 in the 2025/26 season, alongside G1 Australian Derby winner Green Spaces, G1 Futurity Stakes winner Pericles, and G1 Surround Stakes winner Tempted, who has been unbeaten this autumn.

Pulford commented that it felt fantastic to have three sons of Street Boss on the Darley roster, particularly as the stallion enters the twilight years of his career.

“All of a sudden, we have three sons on the roster, Anamoe, Traffic Warden, and now Tentyris,” he said. “Tentyris is the one that most looks like his father. He is absolutely made in Street Boss’s image. He is very strong, very powerful, with a deep girth on him. He’s a terrific looking horse. He is going to be hugely popular.”

Tentyris is out of three-time winner Deity (Exceed And Excel), a daughter of four-time Group 1 winner Divine Madonna (Hurricane Sky). Divine Madonna is a half-sister to Group 3 winner, Group 1-performed Blessum (Umatilla) and to Pieta (Clay Hero), dam of Angel Of Mercy (Hussonet) and granddam to Group 1 winners Baraqiel (Snitzel) and Autumn Angel (The Autumn Sun).

“What a wonderful job Street Boss has done,” Pulford said. “To have three individual Group 1-winning 3-year-olds in one season is a rare feat to achieve.

“The Street Cry sireline continues to deliver and he continues to be a huge influence, both as a sire of sires and as a broodmare sire. It feels like every weekend, there is a Group 1 winner featuring him in the pedigree - it was Beiwacht last weekend, and Idle Flyer the week before.”

Observer priced at $33,000

From the first crop of Ghaiyyath (Ire), Observer will stand for $33,000 inc GST for his first season at stud.

Debuting in the autumn of his juvenile season, Observer broke his maiden at his second start by five lengths, but it is in the spring - under the steerage of Ciaron Maher - that he came into his own.

“Observer was super talented,” Pulford said. “When James Cummings trained him, he won his maiden by five lengths. There aren’t many 2-year-olds who win their maidens by that margin, so we knew then that he was special.”

Observer was third in the G1 Caulfield Guineas behind Autumn Boy (The Autumn Sun) before winning the G2 Moonee Valley Vase in a tough front-running effort that he repeated in the G1 VRC Derby. In the act, the colt delivered Godolphin’s first Derby victory in Australia.

“He was probably unlucky in the Guineas, and then he won the Vase with his head in his chest,” Pulford said. “The jockey got reprimanded that day for easing him down too much. And then the VRC Derby, that was the race he was bred to win. That’s why we brought out Ghaiyyath - to breed a winner of that race - so we are delighted with the result.”

Returning in the autumn, Observer struck again first up in the G2 Autumn Stakes over 1400 metres, before scoring his fifth career victory in the G1 Australian Guineas. He again clashed with Autumn Boy and fellow Godolphin runner Green Spaces in the G1 Rosehill Guineas, where he finished third.

“He showed he had enough speed first up to win at Group 2 level over seven furlongs, so he was a proper talented horse,” Pulford said. “He then carried that forward into the Guineas over a mile.”

Observer is one of two Group winners from three runners for Smooth (Lonhro), a full sister to Champion 2YO and successful sire Pierro, and a half to G2 Wakeful Stakes winner Ambience (Street Cry {Ire}) who was runner-up in three Oaks races. The close family also features the multiple Group winner Estriella (I Am Invincible).

“We didn’t have a new stallion last year for Victoria and we wouldn’t have had one this year without him, so he will stand down there to support the market,” Pulford said of the decision to send Observer south. “But he could have stood at either location.”

Not too many Aus-breds retiring

“There are not many Australian-bred Group 1 winners retiring to stud this year, and people love to breed to Australian-bred Group 1 winners,” Pulford said.

Tentyris and Observer are just two of the six individual Group 1-winning 3-year-olds that the operation produced in the 2025/26 season. Fellow Group 1-winning entires Beiwacht (Bivouac) and Green Spaces will follow in the footsteps of Anamoe and remain in work as 4-year-olds, and Tempted will likely chase a second attempt in the G1 The Everest in the spring.

“They (Beiwacht and Green Spaces) are both very, very talented,” Pulford said. “Beiwacht was very impressive on Saturday in the All Aged Stakes.

“It has been a wonderful season for Godolphin. To have six Group 1-winning 3-year-olds in one season, and three of them be dual Group 1 winners, it has been amazing for the team. Achieving that in one season, particularly as an operation who races their own, has to be very rare.”
