Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Three promising types by Street Boss (USA), Snitzel and Maurice (Jpn) chase success across Australia on Wednesday.

Kembla Grange, Race 3, 2.25pm AEDT, Vale Tim Barrow 2YO Maiden Plate, $42,000, 1300m

Scoot, 2-year-old filly (Street Boss (USA) x Flit {Medaglia D’Oro {USA})

The well-related Scoot (Street Boss {USA}) is set to chase maiden success for Anthony and Sam Freedman and owners Godolphin on debut at Kembla Grange on Wednesday over 1300 metres.

She has had two nice educational trials at Canterbury and Randwick this month and looks ready to debut in strong fashion in the hands of Dylan Gibbons.

Scoot is the second foal from the Medaglia D’Oro (USA) mare Flit. She was a very talented four-time winner on the track, including in the G1 Thousand Guineas, G2 Light Fingers Stakes, G3 Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes and the Silver Eagle.

Her first foal, Cabriole (Lonhro) was a very impressive maiden winner at Geelong by five and a half lengths earlier this month.

Flit is very well-related being out of the Group 3 placed Glissade (Redoute’s Choice), and a half-sister to the stakes placed Flow (Street Cry {USA}), and Speedway (Street Cry {USA}) who is the dam of the outstanding Champion 2-year-old and now sire Broadsiding. He was a winner at the elite level in the G1 Champagne Stakes, G1 Golden Rose, G1 Rosehill Guineas, and the G1 JJ Atkins Plate.

Flit since producing Scoot, has produced a weanling colt by Too Darn Hot (GB), and was subsequently served by Too Darn Hot again last spring.

Caulfield Heath, Race 3, 2pm AEDT, Sportsbet Fast Form 2YO Handicap, $50,000, 1000m

Free Flying, 2-year-old filly (Snitzel x Ennis Hill {Fastnet Rock})

The Ben, Will and JD Hayes-trained Free Flying (Snitzel) looks a good chance to break through for maiden success on the Caulfield Heath on Wednesday over 1000 metres.

She showed her talent on debut placing behind her stablemate Torture (NZ) (Sword Of State) in the Listed Debutant Stakes at Caulfield on October 15 and also ran a brave fourth at her third start in the Listed Merson Cooper Stakes behind Eternal Warrior (Extreme Warrior).

She has since had a break and placed at the Pakenham jump-outs a couple of times to prepare herself for her resuming run.

Free Flying is the fourth live-foal foal out of Ennis Hill (Fastnet Rock), she was a handy juvenile winning the G3 Chairman’s Stakes, and has already proven herself as a broodmare leaving the classy Learning To Fly (Justify {USA}) who was the Champion 2-year-old filly in Australia, picking up the G2 Reisling Stakes, G3 Widden Stakes and the R. Listed Inglis 2YO Millenium.

Ennis Hill is beautifully bred being a full sister to the stakes winning young Coolmore Stud sire in Acrobat, and also a full sister to Lake Geneva (Fastnet Rock), she won the Listed William Crockett Stakes, and placed in the G1 Golden Slipper and G1 Blue Diamond Stakes.

Free Flying’s grandam Hips Don’t Lie (NZ) (Stravinsky {USA}) was a five time winner and was successful at Group 2 level, and Listed level twice as a juvenile.

In recent years, Ennis Hill has produced a Justify (USA) yearling filly, and she was served by Justify in America to Southern Hemisphere time in October last year.

Free Flying was purchased by James Bester Bloodstock and Michael Kirwan for $750,000 from the Coolmore Stud draft at this year’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Caulfield Heath, Race 5, 3.10pm AEDT, Sportsbet Fixed Odds Exotics 3YO B70 Handicap, $50,000, 1800m

Cannae, 3-year-old gelding (Maurice (Jpn) x Enjaaz {I Am Invincible})

The Danny O’Brien-trained Cannae (Maurice {Jpn}) chases his second win at start number five on the Caulfield Heath on Wednesday.

The promising stayer was an impressive winner at his second start over 1500 metres on this track, and has since ran brave placings in two Listed races in Adelaide over 1600 metres and 1800 metres. He looks hard to beat in this 3-year-old Handicap in the hands of Jordan Childs.

Cannae is the second foal out of Enjaaz (I Am Invincible), she was unraced, but has some great blood, being by I Am Invincible and out of the G1 Sires’ Produce Stakes winner and R. Listed Inglis 2YO Classic winner Peggy Jean (Myboycharlie {Ire}).

This is also the extended family of the dual Group 1 winner Lady Jakeo (Last Tycoon {Ire}) and the Group winners Fifth Avenue Lady (Encosta De Lago, Renaissance Woman (NZ) (Reliable Man {GB}), Passive Aggressive (Fastnet Rock), Missrock (Fastnet Rock) and Aussies Love Sport (Redoute’s Choice).

Enjaaz, since producing Cannae, has left a 2-year-old colt by Russian Revolution, a yearling filly by Capitalist, and a weanling filly by Brave Smash (Jpn).

Cannae was purchased by Danny O’Brien Racing for $20,000 from the Emirates Park draft at the 2024 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale
