There is a clear sense of consolidation at Rosemont Stud heading into the 2026 breeding season, with the same six stallions returning to the roster, headlined by Schwarz. After introducing two high-profile additions last year, the Victorian farm now leans into continuity, while carefully adjusting fees in response to prevailing economic conditions.

Building on a new era

In 2025, Rosemont Stud ushered in a new phase at its Gnarwarre base with the addition of two elite prospects for the Australian market in Schwarz and Henry Longfellow (Ire). Both Group 1 winners, by champion sires and out of exceptional female families, were met with outstanding support in their debut seasons.

Between them, the pair covered more than 260 mares, including over 50 black-type winners and a deep pool of stakes-producing mares, underlining the confidence breeders placed in the new recruits.

Adding further momentum to the roster has been the emergence of Extreme Choice’s Extreme Warrior as a young sire of influence, the encouraging progress of Hanseatic, and the continued consistency of Shamus Award, whose progeny include this year’s $3 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas winner.

Rosemont has remained mindful of broader economic pressures when setting fees for 2026, particularly with its second-season stallions, ensuring a practical and supportive structure for breeders.

Schwarz holds strong appeal

The $1.25 million yearling Schwarz, a brilliant all-the-way winner of the G1 William Reid Stakes, returns for his second season at stud in 2026. A son of Zoustar, he is the first foal out of the G2 Angus Armanasco Stakes winner Summer Sham (Not A Single Doubt), a mare well establishing herself as a consistent producer of high-value stock.

Schwarz closed his racing career in outstanding form, delivering elite performances across his final five starts, including his Group 1 victory and two dominant Group 2 weight-for-age wins over 1200 metres.

His first season at stud in 2025 proved highly successful, covering 143 mares at over 83% fertility, laying a strong foundation for his future.

Ryan McEvoy, General Manager, Bloodstock at Rosemont Stud, reflected on that initial season:

“He was super popular, and we were thrilled with not only the support he received, but the quality of mares he covered. He covered a book of mares that we feel resembled the book of a stallion standing for twice as much. Certainly from a Rosemont perspective, we really doubled down on our two new stallions last year. Schwarz and Henry Longfellow, certainly they were the beneficiaries of a lot of the nice young stakes-performed mares that we've accumulated over the last few years. So that's very exciting.

“Like we said in our opening dialogue, we are keen to meet the market and put our money where our mouth is when it comes to offering value, and committing to offering that. So going into his second season, just bringing him back to $33,000 feels appropriate in this market. I think he'll be really well supported at that fee, and that's certainly the aim again for this season with him.”

Arguably the most accomplished son of reigning champion sire Zoustar, and from the famed family of Redoute’s Choice, Schwarz will stand for $33,000 inc GST, slightly reduced from his introductory fee last year.

Henry Longfellow returns with support

The striking and royally bred Henry Longfellow, a Group 1-winning 2-year-old son of Dubawi (Ire), will stand again in 2026 at a slightly decreased fee of $19,800 inc GST.

Unbeaten at two, he capped his juvenile season with a dominant five-length victory in the €400,000 G1 National Stakes. He is out of the outstanding Minding (Ire), the highest-rated daughter of Galileo (Ire), and is just the second Group 1-winning 2-year-old son of Dubawi to stand in Australia, alongside the highly successful Too Darn Hot (GB).

Henry Longfellow is bred on the same cross as emerging sire sensations Night Of Thunder (Ire) and Ghaiyyath (Ire), further strengthening his appeal.

McEvoy explained the thinking behind his fee adjustment:

“The same sort of theory applies to Henry Longfellow as to Schwarz. We just want to ensure that these stallions are backed up with the same level of support they received in year one. I think by offering a slight reduction to their fees from last year, it reflects that. It acknowledges that it's not easy out there, so we are trying to offer breeders a real fighting chance.”

Feedback on his first northern hemisphere foals has been encouraging, “He's got some beauties on the ground. The team at Coolmore send me messages every couple of weeks with some nice foals by him, and they're really pleased with what he has been producing. I know that they've been supporting him strongly off the back of the back of those foals. A lot of breeders are backing up and sending their mares back to him, which is exactly what you want to hear.”

After covering 121 mares in his first season, Henry Longfellow has more than 90 mares due to foal this spring, including a strong representation of young stakes winners.

Extreme Warrior building momentum

An exciting son of Extreme Choice, Extreme Warrior will stand his fifth season at an increased fee of $22,000 inc GST, reflecting growing market confidence.

He has made an encouraging start on the track with his first crop of 2-year-olds, headlined by the Lloyd Kennewell-trained Eternal Warrior. A winner of the Listed Debutant Stakes on debut, he later produced an eye-catching performance in the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes and was among the favourites for the G1 Golden Slipper before injury intervened.

“He has had an increase off the back of a really exciting first season of 2-year-olds for him, acknowledging he hasn't got large numbers. We've got to manage carefully with his fertility. That's well known. But what he's been able to achieve from small numbers is great. He's had an exciting metropolitan winner and a Merson Cooper winner who was highly spoken of before the Slipper. He unfortunately had that untimely injury setback, but he will be back, and there's a few good triallers coming through the pipeline." McEvoy said.

“His (Extreme Warrior) yearling averages skyrocketed 130% from last year, so there's good momentum behind that stallion.” - Ryan McEvoy

“The market has really taken notice of him. His yearling averages skyrocketed 130% from last year, so there's good momentum behind that stallion.”

That momentum has translated into the sales ring, with yearlings fetching up to $220,000, $220,000, $180,000 and $160,000, purchased by leading trainers including John O’Shea, Mick Price, Lloyd Kennewell and Annabel Neasham.

Hanseatic on the rise

Hanseatic, has had his fee reduced to $9,900 inc GST, continues to build steadily, recently siring his first stakes winner in the Ben, Will and JD Hayes-trained Rohesia. The son of Street Boss (USA) has made a solid start, with additional black-type performers including Platinum Pantheon, Sovereign Dash, Bermondsay and Befuddle all showing promise.

McEvoy drew comparisons to his sire:

“We feel he is probably not that dissimilar to Street Boss at the same stage of his career. Their Southern Hemisphere statistics are quite similar at this point in time, and Hanseatic knocked off his first stakes winner recently. He's got multiple stakes performers to his credit, and big numbers coming through, who are all showing something, so we are hopeful he can keep building on the momentum he has generated.”

With more than 500 mares covered across his first three seasons, there is a strong pipeline of runners to come. His yearlings have sold for as much as $375,000, alongside multiple results between $160,000 and $250,000.

Shamus Award keeps doing the job

Standing at $33,000 inc GST, Shamus Award continues to affirm his reputation as a proven sire capable of producing elite-level performers. The G1 Cox Plate-winning son of Snitzel has produced multiple Group 1 stars including Incentivise, Duais, Mr Quickie and Quintessa.

Among his recent highlights are promising 3-year-olds Impulsive Reaction and Torque To Be Sure, the latter taking out the $3 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas.

“He (Shamus Award) is a good, proven stallion of stakes horses - when we have run the numbers, he bats at 6% stakes to runners, which is as good as most commercial stallions in Victoria.” - Ryan McEvoy

“He's had another solid year. He is a good, proven stallion of stakes horses - when we have run the numbers, he bats at 6% stakes to runners, which is as good as most commercial stallions in Victoria. He's got big numbers coming through and he is clearly capable of getting an elite Group 1 horse.”

Doull offers speed and value

The explosive sprinter Doull, a son of four-time Champion sire Snitzel, will stand at a reduced fee of $5500 inc GST in 2026 as he enters his third season.

A $1.2 million Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale graduate, Doull made an immediate impression winning on debut down the Flemington straight. He later returned in the spring of 2023 to claim the G2 Caulfield Sprint, recording the fastest final 600-metre split of any Group sprint at the track that season.

Out of a 2-year-old stakes-winning daughter of Shamardal (USA), Doull combines speed with an appealing physical presence. His first foals, arriving in 2025, have been well received for their strength, size and overall quality.

“He's (Doull) coming into his third season this year, so we have reduced him slightly. He's a very fast son of Snitzel... He's a beautiful looking horse, and he has some terrific first foals.” - Ryan McEvoy
