Hutch thrilled with a record breaking sale
A strong 2026 Inglis Australian Weanling Sale wrapped up today with unprecedented results, as international buyers converged on the standout quality presented at Riverside.
Across two significant days of trading in Sydney, the market showed clear upward movement compared to last year. The number of yearlings selling above $100,000 and $200,000 both rose, while the sale also delivered record-breaking average and median figures. The total gross reached an all-time high of $19,498,250, setting a new benchmark for the Australian Weanling Sale.
Inglis Bloodstock CEO Sebastian Hutch expressed his satisfaction with the outcome after two days of competitive bidding.

“As a team we have worked incredibly hard over the past five years especially to ensure new life was breathed into this sale and to see it perform the way that is has over the past two days is extremely satisfying, especially considering we offered 85 less weanlings than last year,’’ Hutch said.
“We asked breeders and vendors to support the sale with more quality and they have responded, so credit must go to them, we are incredibly grateful for their patronage and I’m so pleased to see the buying bench get behind the catalogue with such vigour and participate so strongly.
“It’s not to say that there aren’t challenges in the market – very evidently there are – but very evidently the rewards are significant for those who present quality stock and the appetite for that stock was strong here over the past two days.
“This has been a really positive start to the week and we now look ahead to tomorrow night for The Chairman’s Sale, which is going to be a memorable evening both in and out of the sales ring.”

Shinzo’s 'Slipper' sparkle carries through the sale
One of the headline act across the opening two days was undoubtedly Shinzo, whose first weanlings made an immediate and emphatic impression on buyers.
Day 1 set the tone, with Lot 43 - a classy filly out of Special Lover (NZ) (Pins) - topping proceedings when knocked down to SP Bloodstock for $600,000. The momentum rolled seamlessly into Day 2, where Lot 412, a colt out of the dual-winning Fastnet Rock mare My Xanadu - realised $400,000 to Cool Partners Inc.
It capped a remarkable result for Coolmore Stud’s young sire, who finished with eight weanlings sold for $1,860,000 at an average of $232,500. A return that underlined the strength of market confidence.

Coolmore’s Tom Moore was pleased with the market's response to the young stallion.
“Shinzo had the sale topper on day one, and as we speak he's got the sale topper on day two. So while we had lofty expectations for his stock at this sale, he's succeeded with those results," Moore said.

“There's plenty of high-class Shinzo’s on the complex, that are going down incredibly well with the buying bench. There was a lot of competition on that particular colt, he was popular all week, and sold extremely well.”
That competitive edge was a theme echoed throughout the sale.
“But there has been a strong appetite for quality offerings at this sale, and there weren't too many better than that colt (Lot 412) on the ground, so he sold extremely well.”

Fairhill Farm’s rewarding week on the big stage
Consistency, demand and preparation all came together for Mike and Debbie O’Donnell’s Fairhill Farm, who enjoyed a standout Inglis Australian Weanling Sale.
From a draft of 22, they sold 18 weanlings for an aggregate of $1,976,000 - the highest of the sale, at an average of $109,778, a result built on sustained buyer interest across the week.
The strength of that demand was evident in the activity around their draft, as O’Donnell reflected after selling a Zousain filly out of Jolie Brise (Fastnet Rock) to SP Bloodstock for $320,000.

“My feeling is of excitement,” O’Donnell said after selling the Zousain filly.
“It's been a very good sale for us and it has been a number of years. We've got to thank the Inglis staff, and our own staff here on the site and at the farm. We have been very busy this week,” O’Donnell said.

Those high numbers of inspections translated directly into opportunity, with some weanlings drawing extraordinary levels of attention.
“We had a couple of horses viewed over 200 times, so it has been extremely busy. The half to Napoleonic, I knew that she would be very popular being by Zousain and we have got the mare in foal to Home Affairs, so we're quite excited.”

Among the highlights was the Harry Angel (Ire) colt out of China Road (Commands), a half-brother to Group 1 winner Hayasugi (Royal Meeting {Ire}), which sold for $360,000 to Shane McGrath Bloodstock and Clinton McDonald.
“It was a big thrill, I think the underbidder was Bruce Neill, so the good judges were on which is fantastic. It's been a really great sale for Fairhill and to have that connection to Hayasugi made the sale even more exciting.”

Alma Vale’s star foal delivers in the sales ring
For Alma Vale Thoroughbreds, patience and planning paid off with a standout filly by I Am Invincible emerging as one of the sale’s most talked-about weanlings.
Identified early as a star foal by Alma Vale's Oscar Engelbrecht, the filly - out of the Listed-winning Noor Sahara (Ire) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) , lived up to that early billing when selling for $400,000 to Wattle Bloodstock (FBAA).
Her story traces back to a significant investment, with Alma Vale purchasing Noor Sahara for $550,000 at the 2025 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale, in foal to I Am Invincible, with the result being this filly. The result marks a strong step towards recouping that outlay, with further upside to come given the mare is now safely in foal to Anamoe.

Stud Manager Oscar Engelbrecht, who had previously highlighted the filly’s potential, was understandably pleased - and his comments neatly tied together the journey from foal to sale ring.
“Wattle Bloodstock purchasing is a great result and to go to someone like that, great judges is very pleasing and I'm sure she will go to a good trainer, and the mare will have every chance going forward as well.
“We're really, really happy. Bring a nice horse here and you can get really well rewarded.”
“We're really, really happy. Bring a nice horse here and you can get really well rewarded.” - Oscar Engelbrecht
The satisfaction was heightened by the fact the plan had unfolded almost exactly as hoped.
“We purchased the mare last year at the Gold Coast and we were hoping we'd get a filly, hoping we'd come here and get this result. So it's alright when a plan comes off. It doesn't always happen, It's hard work, but this one's gone okay.”

And while the commercial return was significant, the broader ambition remained clear.
“We were only too happy, and if people buy off us and make money on these weanlings that is great. Hopefully, she can go on and be a racehorse as well, It's not all about turning over the money. We are trying to breed racehorses too.”
Friends, faith and a great return for Davali, Howard and friends
A shared vision, a bit of family knowledge, and a well-judged purchase - came together in rewarding fashion for a group of connections behind the King’s Gambit colt out of Karavali (NZ) (Nadeem).
Sold for $265,000 to respected judge Jim Carey from the Davali Thoroughbreds draft, the result validated both the initial purchase of the mare and the breeding decisions that followed.
Howard, operating under Randwick Bloodstock, pieced the story together - from identifying the mare through her progeny to building a partnership to support her future.

“We purchased the mare privately, basically, at the time, the mare had a very promising 2-year-old called Canara that I was involved in purchasing with Star Thoroughbreds.” Howard explained.
That early racetrack performance helped elevate the mare’s appeal, even if expectations shifted slightly over time.
“She came out and was stakes placed as a 2-year-old, which was great for the mare. She probably hasn't gone on to as great a height as we'd hoped for.
Later on Wednesday afternoon, after this colt was sold, Canara won at Eagle Farm for trainer Chris Waller and Star Thoroughbreds, bringing up her second win and providing an instant update for her new owners.
“She's been a lovely mare, who has got results, Canara cost $400,000 a yearling. Her first yearling out of her was a Written Tycoon that made $575,000. She's a lovely style of mare, She throws a really good physical and I think King's Gambit is one of the nicest-looking stallions in the Hunter Valley.”

The mating has already proven effective, reinforcing confidence in the cross.
“Obviously, he's a three-quarter relation to Canara, and so the mare's obviously nicked well with I Am Invincible. It’s a good mating. It's produced a lovely colt and we've sent the mare straight back to King's Gambit.

“It was an easy decision to send the mare straight back to King's Gambit, so she's safely in foal to him.”
