Lot 321 – Capitalist x Jenga (All Too Hard) filly – $40,000
Buyer: Fernrigg Farm Pty Ltd
Vendor: Segenhoe Stud
Fernrigg Farm have been active on both sides of the ledger throughout the sale. They offered 15 weanlings, selling 13, while also making their presence felt on the buying bench - securing nine weanlings for a total of $567,000 at an average of $63,000. As is often the case with Fernrigg weanling purchases, some will be aimed at the yearling sales, while others could be retained to race in-house with friends and family.
Among their purchases, Lot 321 - A Capitalist filly stood out as a sharp, value acquisition. She is out of Jenga (All Too Hard), a winner over 1100 metres and a half-sister to Granny Red Shoes (Not A Single Doubt), a dual 2-year-old winner who has already made her mark as the dam of Listed-winning juvenile High Octane – Celestial Hero (H.K.) (Deep Field).
Jenga herself is building a tidy record at stud. She has produced the 2-year-old winner Kujenga (King’s Legacy), a three-time stakes placegetter, along with Inhabit (Stay Inside), successful over 900 metres as a juvenile this season, further underlining the depth of early speed in the family.

“For me, she was just a really neat package. She was correct, had nice shape to her, good colour and she walked well enough. I think Capitalists sometimes can be a little bit sprinter-like in their action, but this filly actually got along quite well,” Fernrigg’s Rae-Louise Kelly said, pointing to both type and movement as key factors.

That physical appeal is matched by a pedigree loaded with precocity, and Kelly was quick to underline the appeal of the page.
“She has a very good, quick pedigree, I think you would probably like her to be a colt, but the mare’s already done the job with King’s Legacy producing a nice filly and there’s not too many of them around, so that also gives you confidence.”
With Capitalist renowned for producing sharp, early 2-year-olds, the filly fits the mould on paper and on type.

“There are plenty of 2-year-old winners on the page and Capitalist gives you an early, fast two-year-old, she does look like she’ll cop the work early and get the job done.”
As for what lies ahead, Fernrigg are keeping their options open, balancing the appeal of the yearling market against the potential to race.
“We’ve picked up quite a few from the sale and they have various options, we actually raced a nice Capitalist filly ourselves that we bought for similar money a couple of years ago and just put a heap of friends in. So the door’s wide open for her.
“If she (Lot 321) continues to improve and turns into a good looking yearling... She’s probably a really nice classic filly.” - Rae-Louise Kelly
“If she continues to improve and turns into a good looking yearling, there’s every chance she will come back through the sale. She’s probably a really nice classic filly.
“But as I said, we do have an option there to race her with friends and hopefully have another little money bank.”

It’s also a pedigree with scope to build further. Jenga was served by Stay Inside last spring, while Granny Red Shoes has a weanling filly by Proisir and was covered by Too Darn Hot (GB). With Inhabit and Kujenga set to enter the broodmare ranks in time, the family has the makings of a commercially appealing and continually improving line.
For $40,000, Fernrigg may well have secured a filly who ticks the right boxes now, and could look even better as the page continues to evolve.
