Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
Two gallopers by Bivouac and Written By are chasing deserved maiden success across Australia on Friday.
Southside Pakenham, Race 1, 4.45pm AEST, Ladbrokes Punter Assist Maiden Plate, $45,000, 1400m
Geeseven, 3-year-old gelding (Bivouac x Global Thinking {So You Think {NZ})
The Grahame Begg-trained Geeseven (Bivouac) chases deserved success at Pakenham on Friday. The promising gelding looks very hard to beat on the back of two second placings in his career so far.
Geeseven is the fourth foal out of Global Thinking (So You Think {NZ}), who was a three-time winner on the track, including a win in the Listed Southland Guineas.

This is the extended family of the Listed winning sprinters See The World (Danzero), Rusambo (Elusive Quality {USA}) and Handfast (Street Cry {Ire}). The classy dual Group 1 winner Love Dance (NZ) (Kaapstad {NZ}) also features as this gelding's fourth dam.
Global Thinking, in recent times, has produced a 2-year-old gelding by Trapeze Artist, a yearling filly by Too Darn Hot (GB), a weanling filly by Written By and was served by Private Life last spring.
Coffs Harbour, Race 2, 11.40am AEST, Oak Tree Group Super Maiden Plate, $50,000, 1205m
Poetic Angel, 4-year-old mare (Written By x Lucky Angel {Redoute’s Choice})
The Matthew Dunn-trained Poetic Angel (Written By) chases maiden success at Coffs Harbour at start number three on Friday.
She has run two good thirds in her career so far at Ballina and Grafton and looks a great chance here in the hands of Jake Bayliss.

Poetic Angel is out of the four-time winner Lucky Angel (Redoute’s Choice), who was also placed in the G3 Launceston Cup. She has been a great producer leaving five winners. Lucky Angel is also very well-bred being half-sister to four stakes winners and to the dam of the Group 1 winner and Windsor Park Stud stallion Vanbrugh.
Lucky Angel, since producing Poetic Angel, has left a 3-year-old filly called Lucky Me (Zousain), a 2-year-old filly by Gold Standard, and a yearling filly by Supido before she was retired from stud.
Poetic Angel was purchased for $35,000 by Viva Racing, Cameron Crocket Racing and Neil Jenkin from the Widden Stud draft at the 2023 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale Highway Session.
