Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Two exciting 2-year-olds by Snitzel and Extreme Choice go head-to-head at Group 3 level at the Gold Coast, and a promising Satono Aladdin (Jpn) 2-year-old takes his place at Caulfield.

St Gotthard, 2-year-old colt (Snitzel x Ms Bad Behavior (Can) {Blame {USA}})

St Gotthard (Snitzel), the very exciting full brother to the outstanding Group 1 winner and now Coolmore Stud stallion in Switzerland, lines up at the Gold Coast for trainer Chris Waller on Saturday.

St Gotthard was an impressive winner at Warwick farm on debut on April 15 defeating Peyton (Zoustar), and looks a good chance to go back-to-back in this race at Group 3 level.

St Gotthard’s dam Ms Bad Behaviour (Can) (Blame {USA}) was purchased for US$600,000 (AU$862,800) from the 2019 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November Sale by Freyer Bloodstock and was imported to Australia.

St Gotthard himself was purchased for $2.7 million by Tom Magnier at last year’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the Arrowfield draft The mare also has a Snitzel yearling colt, foaled another Snitzel colt last October, and was subsequently served by The Autumn Sun.

Berzelius, 2-year-old colt (Extreme Choice x Secret Liaison {Artie Schiller {USA}})

The well-bred Berzelius (Extreme Choice) makes his second start for Michael Freedman at the Gold Coast on Saturday. The colt won very nicely on debut at Doomben on April 22.

Bred by SF Bloodstock, Berzelius is the eighth foal out of dual Listed winner Secret Liaison (Artie Schiller {USA}) who was also placed up to Group 3 level.

From the family of G2 Pago Pago Stakes winner Deferential (Royal Academy {USA}) and this season's G2 Waikato Guineas winner, and G1 New Zealand Derby and G1 New Zealand Oaks placegetter Autumn Glory (NZ) (Ocean Park {NZ}), Secret Liaison has produced six winners from her seven to the track to date, including Group 3-placed Styling City (Starspangledbanner).

Since producing Berzelius, Secret Liaison foaled a colt by In The Congo in 2025, and was left empty afterwards

Michael Freedman Racing, Michael Wallace, and Kia Ora Stud purchased Berzelius for $340,000 from Newgate Farm at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Blue Meteor (NZ), 2-year-old colt (Satono Aladdin (Jpn) x Viva La Blues {Guillotine {NZ}})

The Ciaron Maher-trained Blue Meteor (NZ) (Satono Aladdin {Jpn}) makes his second start at Caulfield on Saturday after running an encouraging third on debut at Pakenham last month.

Blue Meteor is the second foal out of Viva La Blues (Guillotine {NZ}) who was a winner over 1400 metres in New Zealand. This is the extended family of the Champion 3-year-old filly Shamrocker (NZ) (O’Reilly {NZ}) who was a dual Group 1 winner, and her Group 1 Auckland Cup winning half-sister Rock Diva (NZ) (Lucky Unicorn).

Blue Meteor was purchased for NZ$210,000 by RS Bloodstock, Paul Moroney Bloodstock and Catheryne Bruggeman from the Haunui Farm draft at the 2025 New Zealand Bloodstock national Yearling Sale.
