The battle for Australia’s leading 2-year-old Sire this season has become one of the most competitive battles of the breeding season, with first-season sensation Home Affairs and proven champion Snitzel locked in a fascinating fight for juvenile supremacy.
While Snitzel appears firmly on track to claim a fifth Australian Sires’ Premiership overall this season, the Arrowfield legend is also charging hard in the 2-year-old standings as he attempts to reel in Coolmore’s exciting young stallion Home Affairs.
With just over two months remaining in the season, the race is tightening by the week.

Table: Leading Australia 2YO Sires for 2025-26 Season
Home Affairs holding narrow advantage
As of the morning of May 15, Home Affairs holds top spot on the Australian 2-year-old Sire Premiership with progeny earnings of $4,327,275, only $113,405 ahead of Arrowfield’s late champion stallion Snitzel on $4,213,870.
Snitzel remains well clear of Magnus in third, leading by $1,785,770, with the majority of Magnus’ earnings generated by G1 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Streisand.
The dual Group 1-winning sprinter Home Affairs stood his first season at Coolmore Stud at a service fee of $110,000 (inc. GST), ultimately covering a massive book of 203 mares and producing 145 reported live foals in Australia.

Given his credentials, support was never going to be an issue.
The son of I Am Invincible was an $875,000 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale graduate and captured both the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes and G1 Lightning Stakes as a 3-year-old, after winning the G2 Silver Slipper Stakes as a 2-year-old.
He currently leads the 2-year-old Sire Premiership with earnings of $4,327,275, with star colt Guest House responsible for $3,275,500 of that tally following his brilliant G1 Golden Slipper victory for trainers Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr.
Guest House was subsequently purchased by Coolmore Stud with the long-term plan of retiring the colt to stud alongside his sire.

However, Home Affairs’ success has been far from a one-horse show.
He has sired eight individual winners of 10 races in Australia this season from 31 runners, including two stakes winners.
Among those winners are dual Listed victor Gin Twist, along with Marffiano, Natural Fling, Home Tomurra, Jacaranda, Home Siren and Home Invasion.
Home Affairs has also produced several talented maiden performers who have already shown significant ability.
I’m Ya Huckleberry, Internal Affairs and La Gitana have all earned stakes placings, suggesting maiden wins are not far away.
The young stallion has also made his presence felt across the Tasman, siring stakes winners Kinnaird and Miss Janet in New Zealand. While those victories do not contribute to the Australian Premiership, they further underline his ability to produce classy juveniles.
Snitzel refusing to slow down
Snitzel has already claimed the Australian 2-year-old Sire Premiership five times previously and remains within striking distance of adding a sixth juvenile title to his extraordinary record.
It would be another fitting achievement for the legendary Arrowfield Stud stallion, who sadly died in June last year.
Even late in his career, Snitzel continues to produce elite juveniles at an incredible rate. This season he has sired seven individual Australian 2-year-old winners from 25 starters, with those runners winning 14 races between them.

Remarkably, five of those seven winners have scored at stakes level, highlighting both the precociousness and quality consistently associated with his progeny.
That group includes G1 Sires’ Produce Stakes and G2 Skyline Stakes winner Campione D’Italia, along with G1 Champagne Stakes winner Fireball, who alone has earned $2,035,000 - almost half of Snitzel’s total juvenile earnings.
The stallion this season has also produced Group 3 winners The Last Episode, St Gotthard and Aurum Belle.
Importantly, several of those colts also profile as future stallion prospects.

“Snitzel has had a remarkable season. He looks a shoe-in to win his fifth Sires’ Premiership. He may even finish Champion 2-year-old Sire again as well,” Arrowfield Stud’s Jon Freyer commented.
“It’s going to be a close call between him and Home Affairs. He is showing no signs of slowing down with these last few crops that he’s got and, you know, sometimes stallions do, but really the last couple of crops have arguably been as good as he’s ever had.”
Other stallions making their presence felt with the juveniles
Several less familiar names have also surged into prominence on the 2-year-old Sire table this season, largely through standout individual performers.
Magnus currently sits third on the Premiership with $2,428,100 in prizemoney, almost entirely generated by G1 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Streisand, who has contributed all but $5,600 of that total.

Similarly, Widden Stud’s Supido occupies fourth position with $1,907,305, with the Ciaron Maher-trained Listed Magic Millions Gold Coast 2YO Classic winner Unit Five responsible for all but $25,705.
Darley shuttler Too Darn Hot (GB) and Widden Stud’s Trapeze Artist also deserve significant recognition after each siring three individual stakes-winning juveniles this season.
Too Darn Hot has produced Tornado Valley, Afireofgidgeecoals and Shiki, while Trapeze Artist is the sire of stakes winners Spicy Miss, Chilly Girl and Where’s The Circus.

Other stallions to sire at least two stakes-winning 2-year-olds this season in Australia include Street Boss (USA), Brazen Beau, All Too Hard, Stay Inside, Extreme Choice and New Zealand-based Sword Of State.
Could this weekend shift the Premiership?
As always in these title races, things can change quickly.
This weekend’s Listed Woodlands Stakes at Scone, worth $200,000, could potentially impact the standings.
Snitzel will be represented by impeccably bred filly Moscatel, a $1.6 million graduate of the 2025 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, who lines up following a maiden victory at Kensington last month.

Home Affairs counters with his well-bred daughter La Gitana, who has already placed at both Group 3 and Listed level in just two starts and shapes as a major contender for the Hayes stable.
Snitzel also has Dominator engaged at Kembla Grange on Saturday for trainer Michael Freedman.
Should the $850,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale graduate score, the current deficit would immediately reduce by another $20,550.
Of course, the battle extends well beyond this weekend.
With the season running through until the end of July, there remains a substantial amount of juvenile prizemoney still to be contested, particularly through Queensland features such as the G2 Sires’ Produce Stakes and G1 JJ Atkins Stakes.

Metropolitan 2-year-old racing and rich prizemoney mean the leaderboard can change rapidly.
Interestingly, according to the Australian Stud Book, both Snitzel and Home Affairs currently have 91 named 2-year-olds, meaning even their numerical representation cannot separate them at this point.
Whatever unfolds over the final months, the battle appears destined to go right down to the wire.
Snitzel looks almost certain to secure another Australian Sires’ Premiership overall, while Home Affairs appears all but locked in as first-season Sire champion.
But which stallion will add the coveted 2-year-old Sire Premiership to an already outstanding season? Time will tell.
