Looking Ahead - June 18

Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

A well performed 2-year-old by Home Affairs resumes at Gosford and a promising 3-year-old by Bivouac makes his debut at Moe.

Gosford, Race 1, 12.10pm AEST, Kincumber Broadwater Walking Group 2YO Maiden Plate, $42,000, 1100m

Internal Affairs, 2-year-old colt (Home Affairs x Kononkop {Arg} {Pure Prize {USA}})

Internal Affairs (Home Affairs) is set to have his third start at Gosford over 1100 metres for trainer Brad Widdup on Thursday. Last preparation he ran fourth on debut at Rosehill behind Fireball (Snitzel) and then he ran second in the R. Listed Inglis Nursery behind Where’s The Circus (Trapeze Artist).

That form looks very strong, and since having a break he has built his fitness with two trials at Rosehill and looks ready to roll in a fresh state.

His dam is Kononkop (Arg) (Pure Prize {USA}) who was a Champion 2-year-old filly in Argentina, and was a four-time winner including twice at Group 1 level.

Kononkop is a half-sister to Koller (Arg) (Orpen {USA}) who was a three-time Group 2 winner in Argentina, and she is out of Korea (USA) (Southern Halo {USA}) who won four times, including at Listed level in Argentina.

Since producing Internal Affairs, Kononkop has produced a yearling colt by Home Affairs, and was served by City Of Troy (USA) last September after missing to Tassort the season before.

Moe, Race 2, 1.30pm AEST, Dressed to the Nines 3YO Maiden Plate, $32,000, 1200m

Ona Bivvy, 3-year-old gelding (Bivouac x Cangino {Perugino {USA}})

The John McArdle-trained Ona Bivvy (Bivouac) makes his debut at Moe on Thursday afternoon over 1200 metres. The 3-year-old gelding has had plenty of educational jump-outs and trials and looks well-placed on debut, in the hands of apprentice jockey Sam Kennedy.

Ona Bivvy is out of the 2-year-old winner Cangino (Perugino {USA}) who is a full-sister to the Champion stallion I Am Invincible. She has been a fantastic broodmare leaving nine winners, with the best of them being the South African Group 2 winner and Group 1-placed Tamaanee (Teofilo {Ire}).

Cangino, after producing Ona Bivvy, left one more foal before she died in 2025, that is a 2-year-old gelding named Swagman Fred (Bivouac).

Ona Bivvy was originally purchased by Paul Willetts Bloodstock Consultancy for only $4000 from the Yarraman Park Stud draft at the 2023 Inglis Australian Weanling Sale. He was then re-offered by KBL Thoroughbreds at the 2024 Inglis Ready2Race Sale where Redgum Racing Pty Ltd paid $37,500 for the gelding.

Looking Back:

Klocke (Zoustar) - Was scratched from his race at Canterbury.

Demerzel (Ole Kirk) - Was a very impressive winner at Canterbury and is a filly to follow.

Vega Vixen (Lucky Vega {Ire}) - Battled on okay for sixth on the Caulfield Heath. She was up on pace with plenty of pressure, so the effort probably as not too bad.
