Double Market tops Late June sale

The Inglis Digital June Late Sale was topped by Group 2-winning mare Double Market (Castelvecchio), sold for $200,000 to Geoff Walsh, having been offered by Lindsay Park Racing on behalf of her ownership. Walsh confirmed the mare was likely en route for a date with Anamoe in the spring.

“I’ve got a nom to Anamoe, I think he’s the complete package,” he said. “I like the fact he kept racing and won in every year that he was racing, and he’s also a very attractive stallion that I think will really suit Double Market.

“Jim Clarke advises me on my bloodstock purchases and he graded this mare highly on physique especially, plenty of strength and he thinks she could throw some nice foals and become a commercial broodmare for me. I like to have 12-15 mares and I lost one foaling down last year, so I’ve been looking to replace her and Double Market really fitted the bill.

“I was hoping to get her for a bit less but I thought $200,000 was a fair price, anything over that would have stretched me to keep going much further.”

A $100,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase for her trainers, Double Market started her career in fine form winning a maiden at Ballarat over 1400 metres. She then backed up that effort with success in the G2 Moonee Valley Fillies Classic at start number two over the mile.

“We’re really happy with this result for our owners, and we appreciate all the effort the Inglis Digital team went to to market her and get the sale result they did,” said Lindsay Park’s Josh Rix. “I really believe she will make a great broodmare for her new owner.”

A daughter of Castelvecchio, Double Market is out of the winning Redoute’s Choice mare First Tier. Her grandam Racing Nadine (Bernardini {USA}) is a half-sister to the dual Group 1 winner He’s No Pie Eater (Canny Lad). Descending from Show Lady (USA) (Sir Ivor {Ire}), the dam of the influential Dancing Show (USA) (Nijinksy {Can}), this is also the extended family of horses like Marhoona (Snitzel), Umatilla, and the great Redoute’s Choice himself.

Three quarter to Chayan sells for $160,000

It was Michael Pitt that secured Hellbent mare Takemine, a three-quarter-sister to G2 Reisling Stakes victress and $5.6 million Inglis Chairman’s Sale topper Chayan (I Am Invincible), for a bid of $160,000. Offered by her ownership, the 6-year-old Takemine was a winner three times on the track over sprint distances.

Pitt confirmed Takemine would be retired and head to stud, although no stallion had been pencilled in for her yet.

“I have three mares at Arrowfield, so I’ll have a chat to the team there and see what they think about potential matings, but I still have a bit of time up my sleeve to make that call,” Pitt said.

“I’ve been looking for another nice mare for a while now, and I found her when I looked at the Inglis Digital catalogue when it came online on Friday, and just thought with her breeding and from a family that is doing so much, she would have every chance at stud.

“Chayan obviously sold for a lot of money at the Chairman’s Sale last month and has a heck of a lot of ability, the mare (Lubiton) is in foal to I Am Invincible again, and the 3-year-old will be back on the track shortly. There’s just a lot of upside in the family and I saw this as a great opportunity to get my hands on a nice mare.”

“That’s a great result for us, we’re stoked,” said Takemine’s part owner Jack Cavanough. JC Bloodstock originally purchased Takemine as a tried horse through Inglis Digital in August for 2024, paying just $6500 for her. “She’s been great for us and I’m sure she’ll be equally as great as a broodmare for her new owner, who we wish all the best.”

Takemine’s dam Group 3 winner Lubiton (Snitzel) has produced four winners from four to the track so far, with Chayan the clear standout. She was covered by I Am Invincible again last year and her Zoustar yearling filly realised $525,000 this year to the bid of Sheamus Mills Bloodstock (FBAA) at the Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale.

Mare in foal to The Autumn Sun makes six figures

Mayfair Farm added an important addition to their broodmare band when securing Vinery Stud’s Dayeala (NZ) (Starcraft {NZ}) for $120,000, with the 15-year-old mare coming with a positive pregnancy to The Autumn Sun.

Dayeala is a half-sister to Listed Leon Macdonald Stakes winner Sky Punch (NZ) (Alamosa {NZ}), and is from the direct family of Irish Champion 2YO and Champion 3YO Grey Swallow (Ire). The family also features G1 Gran Criterium winner Night Style (USA) (Night Shift {USA}) and G2 Hochi Hai Fillies' Revue victress Shigeru Pink Ruby (Jpn) (Maurice {Jpn}).

Placed on the track, Dayeala is the dam of three winners so far including 8-time winner Much Much Better (Stratum), who was twice fourth at Group 2 level. Sara Ryan Racing bought her Exceedance yearling colt for $100,000 at this year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Godolphin geldings in demand

One of Inglis Digital’s most consistent vendors, Godolphin offered a draft of 10 geldings during the June Late sale, and sold all 10 for an aggregate of $435,500 and an average of $43,500.

The top seller among their draft was Comedy (Snitzel), who was purchased by Jack Bruce Racing for $95,000. The lightly tried gelding was the winner of the $160,000 Kirkham 2YO Plate on debut and was competitive in black-type races throughout his juvenile season. The 3-year-old ran a last start second at Randwick for his trainer Joseph Pride.
