In the Magic Millions Digital (July 3 to July 9) Sale, 45 horses sold for a total of $482,400.

The top lot was 4-year-old Group-performed mare Earthstorm (Calyx {GB}), who sold to SM & KB Bloodstock for $155,000.

The second top lot was Midnight Star (Zoustar). The last start winner was offered by Peters Investments and was a $45,000 purchase for PJ Racing.

Both 2-year-old Speedy Harriet (Harry Angel {Ire}) and 5-year-old June (Trapeze Artist) sold for $30,000 each. Speedy Harriet was bought by Jason Coyle Racing, while June was bought by Home Creek Pastoral.

Earthstorm to race on after realising six figures

Group-performed Earthstorm (Calyx {GB}) was the gem in this week’s Magic Millions Digital catalogue, and that was rightfully recognised by her closing price on Thursday, when she sold for $155,000 to SM & KB Bloodstock.

A total of 31 bids from local and interstate interest came for the 4-year-old Western Australian mare before the final price was realised.

A $60,000 purchase at the Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale for her trainer Russell Stewart, Earthstorm was placed in the G2 Karrakatta Plate, G3 Gimcrack Stakes, and Listed Supremacy Stakes in the autumn of her juvenile year. She broke her maiden the following spring, after close finishes in the Listed Sir Ernest Lee Steere Classic and Listed Burgess Queen Stakes.

With earnings of nearly $290,000 including bonuses, the mare added placings in the Listed Sheila Gwynne Classic and $100,000 Marjorie Charleson Classic feature sprint.

“We've followed Earthstorm since her 2-year-old season and have always believed in what she could do,” said stable representative Kyle Sutherland.

“She'll stay in the West and join Stefan's (Vahala Racing Stable) where she'll race for at least another 12 months before eventually joining our broodmare ranks.”

“The marketing was super,” said Stewart. “I know that everyone who needed to see her, saw her. The Magic Millions Digital team did everything they could and she could not have been marketed any better.”

From the first crop of the late shuttler Calyx (GB), Earthstorm is a descendant of Group 3-winning mare Piccadilly Circus (Royal Academy {USA}), best known as the dam of Fastnet Rock.

Race fillies in high demand

The second top lot of the sale was 4-year-old racemare Midnight Star (Zoustar), who was offered by Peters Investments. The winner of both her most recent starts realised $45,000 to the bid of PJ Racing.

A dual winner herself, Midnight Star comes from one of Western Australia’s blue chip families, being out of six-time winner Midnight Sky (Myboycharlie {Ire}), a half-sister to G2 Perth Cup Midnight Blue (So You Think {NZ}) and dual Listed winner Neverland (Big Brown {USA}), who also placed in the Perth Cup.

A third half-sibling Demonetization (All Too Hard) was even more exceptional over the Tasman in New Zealand, where his 10 wins include four Group wins plus numerous stakes placings and a fourth in the G1 Zabeel Classic.

By way of third dam Done That (NZ) (Centaine), this is the family of G1 Railway Stakes victress Inspirational Girl (NZ) (Reliable Man {GB}).

Also popular was Harry Angel (Ire) juvenile Speedy Harriet. Offered by Yarraman Park Stud, the filly realised $30,000 when purchased by Jason Coyle Racing. She is a half-sister to G3 Vanity Stakes winner Sweet And Speedy (Street Cry {Ire}) out of G3 Adrian Knox Stakes winner Speedy Natalie (Al Maher), herself a daughter of Listed Gimcrack Stakes winner Speedy Bell (Brocco {USA}).

Speedy Bell has produced three stakes winners, led by multiple Group winner Silverstream (Al Maher), as well as the dams of G3 Gunsynd Classic winner Bases Loaded (Deep Field) and G2 Queen Of The South Stakes winner Caste (Sir Prancealot {Ire}).

Speedy Harriet’s price tag was matched by 5-year–old Trapeze Artist gelding June, who sold to Home Creek Pastoral for $30,000. The last start Eagle Farm winner is out of a half-sister to G1 Myer Classic victress and multiple Group winner I Am A Star (NZ) (I Am Invincible).
