Leadership Role - Burnewang North Pastoral

Burnewang North is a 2,500 acre commercial thoroughbred and mixed farming enterprise near Rochester, Northern Victoria, specialising in thoroughbred weanlings, prime lambs and mixed crops.

Our respected managers are taking a 12-month sabbatical after 15 years leading the operation. While they have the option to return, we seek a capable Leadership Person/Management Couple to help strengthen our management structure in their absence and beyond.

Burnewang North is a professionally managed farm, with a proven record for consistently producing top-end weanling sale results. This is far more than a caretaker role. The successful applicant will play a key leadership role across all aspects of the operation - from broodmares, foals and commercial weanling preparation through to pasture management, livestock, farm infrastructure and staff interaction. We value a positive work environment and this is an opportunity to build a rewarding future with us.

The Role

Working closely with the owner and a small team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the property, including but not limited to:

Management of broodmares, foals and young horses.

Horse husbandry and preparation of commercial weanlings for sale.

Pasture planning, grazing and livestock management.

Machinery, fencing, water and general farm infrastructure.

Staff leadership, mentoring and supervision.

Seasonal planning, contractor coordination and work place safety compliance.

Maintaining the presentation of the property to a consistently high commercial standard.

About You

You enjoy all facets of farming and understand the importance of integrating horse management, pastures, rotations, livestock performance and efficient operations. You have proven experience in a commercial thoroughbred breeding or similar enterprise and are committed to ongoing learning and professional development in line with our farm ethos.

You love horses and livestock, prioritise welfare, have confident handling skills with mares and foals, and have experience preparing horses for commercial weanling sales.

You are a strong communicator and self-starter who enjoys responsibility, makes sound decisions and works well in a small team. You have a keen eye for detail, high standards and treat the farm and its stock as if they were your own.

An attractive remuneration package, including on-farm accommodation, is available, commensurate with experience. Overseas applicants are welcome but must hold a current Australian work visa. A full driver’s licence is required.
