The Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale opens the sales season in Australia and in many ways, the sale sets the vibe for the whole year. With a fortnight of events, the sale is the place to be seen. But it’s more than just a vibe. The numbers are strong with the 2026 sale grossing over $213 million with a clearance rate of 87% across both books.

“Following on from a successful 2026 selling season, we are delighted to present a world class suite of yearling sales in 2027,” Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said.

“We appreciate there is a choice when it comes to presenting your stock to buyers and we never take for granted the job at hand to give those who support us the very best results.

“Come for business and stay for fun is our mantra.”

Four Group 1 winners already

The 2025 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale graduates, who are about to complete their juvenile season, already count four individual Group 1 winners led by G1 Golden Slipper winner Guest House (Home Affairs).

He is joined by G1 Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Campione D’Italia (Snitzel) and the winners of both the New Zealand 2-year-old Group 1 races, Lara Antipova (Russian Revolution) and Seize The Day (I Am Invincible). Already the sale counts 30 individual 2-year-old stakes winners.

“Competition amongst thoroughbred auction houses for the live yearling sales market is healthy for the industry. It drives commercial outcomes and supports risk diversification through providing you with a broad range of selling options to consider.

“We are focussed on representing those who entrust us with their stock and are committed to supporting the sustainability of the entire industry's ecosystem.”

The 2026 Gold Coast Yearling Sale hit a median price of $200,000 in book one with a top price of $2 million that was hit twice for a Frankel (GB) colt and an Extreme Choice colt. Neither have been named yet.

“The flagship Gold Coast Yearling Sale is the Southern Hemisphere leader for delivering vendors the best results with strong returns across all levels and a clearance rate (87.5% in 2026) that is the envy of others.

“Importantly breeders and vendors are able to trade in a market that includes the best line up of buyers - a market that wants to get involved early at the country's best performing auction thus giving vendors a stronger and, importantly, a much earlier return.”

The Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale will be held from January 12 to January 17, 2027.

Regional sales provide important platforms

Entries are also open for the Tasmania Yearling Sale, Perth Yearling Sale, and the Gold Coast March Yearling Sale. These regional sales continue to be strong platforms for breeders to showcase their stock.

“With proven performance at all levels of the market across our other auctions on the Gold Coast and in Perth, Adelaide and Tasmania, we extend a sales solution backed by our electrifying auctioneers, the marketing muscle of the world's best and most innovative Race Series and a depth of buying bench which drives that competitive bidding buzz,” Bowditch said.

The Tasmania Yearling Sale saw a huge boost in 2026 with 83 yearlings sold for $2.8 million, well up on the $1.9 million achieved in 2025 for the same number of horses. Unbeaten dual Listed winner Aristopolos (St Mark’s Basilica {Fr}) is the headline act for the 2025 sale.

The Magic Millions Tasmania Yearling Sale will take place on February 15, 2027.

Over in the west, at the Perth Yearling Sale, it was a similar story with the same number of horses sold in 2025 and 2026, but 2026 seeing a lift in gross to $21.7 million (up from $18 million in 2025). The current crops of juvenile graduates include G2 Karrakatta Plate victor Afireofgigdeecoals (Too Darn Hot {GB}) and Listed winner Maria Lucia (Rommel).

Set for centre stage on February 18 and 19, the Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale pins a focus on the west.

While the numbers weren’t as strong at the 2026 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale as they had been in 2025, the 2025 graduates are showcasing the sale on the track and making a case for buyers to come back in 2027. Already the sale has seen G3 David Coles AM Stakes winner Brave Hustler (Brave Smash {Jpn}) and Listed winners Hard Kick (All Too Hard) and Eternal Warrior (Extreme Warrior).

The Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale will take place on March 14 and 15, 2027.

Magic Millions have switched the order of the Adelaide and March sales with the Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale to be held on March 22 and 23 in 2027. In 2026, the March sale aggregate grew from 2025’s $8.4 million to $11.1 million in 2026. This was in part due to a bigger catalogue but the average also grew to $35,400.

The 2025 Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale has already exceeded the performance of the same sale from previous years with two juvenile Listed winners under the belt, being Cool Gent (Winning Rupert) and Itchintogo (Sun City).
